Ok i live in Florida where this is totally out of control, So you have a little pain, anxiety whatever there are much better solutions then getting stoned on the highest grade THC products

I am not a smoke and never liked it but I have a huge vodka issue! So this is just my view

You are getting the WLS for one reason to get healthy, Hitting THC and Drinking will never mix with this! So get all you tools in a row and get clean and healthy!

I just do not get how trying to balance addiction to food with a addiction to THC will ever work. Get all the way in or jump out

What works for one does not work for all. I do not drink alcohol of any kind, have never cared for it, and strongly advise against mixing MM and alcohol. By the same token, I don’t believe mixing MM and alcohol was even part of this thread. Used sparingly and PRN, each has its rightful and legal place. The subject of addiction is an entirely different topic.

Oh I agree a puff on Friday is ok - Or a glass of wine wont kill any of us - But every single person on this site has a addiction issue - None of us could control our weight and food intake! That is a fact, so my view we have to be even more careful during this journey that we are not transferring out addiction to food to say pot or alcohol. We all did this to get healthy and see no health benefits from Pot or Vodka,

One thing i know for sure I will die way younger then i should have due to beating he hell out of myself and playing way to hard with Vodka, lifestyle and smoking! Nobody can dispute that fact, I just hope all the work we all are doing to get healthy can offset the damage we have done already

Heres my thing, there is a lot of research done these days, and its proven that taking in medical marijuana by ingesting it, is way healthier then alcohol and doesnt have addictive traits like alcohol. These are facts. Not opinions. I dont encourage anyone to do anything. ONLY MY EXPERIENCE. They day i came home i had my infused coconut oil and i still do to this day. And i think ive been pretty successful. Anyone that takes a prescription drug has no right to tell anyone else that this prescription is different. The days of close minded "marijuana is the devil" are over. Please i encourage you to do your research before you bash something that youve been told your whole life is the devil so thats what you believe. I hope everyone finds what THEY NEED to be successful on this journey. We are all different and may take different roads but i hope we all make healthy new lives and continue to grow. ❤️ i hope everyone has a great day!

It is medicine and that is how I treat it. I would no more take this before driving or going to work than I would if it were an opiod pain killer. Jake, do you make your own oil?

I had my first visit with metro weight loss center in February. Yesterday had my first visit with the surgeon. Going over questions the topic of marijuana came up, and i told her i have a medical marijuana card she says i still need to stop and i will have random drug tests. I thought since i have a card it wouldnt be a problem. So i just stopped because im not going to let that get in the way of what i want. Just seeing if anyone else had a similar problem.

I had no problem, but I live in CA and my surgeon and anesthesiologist was fine with it. I don't smoke it though I take edibles and had to switch to tincture oils.

Fully agree I am not saying its bad - and I agree as a hard core drinker Vodka is no good. If it works for you and you are getting success with it - Do it! Unfortunately i have had to many Stoner employees and issues with pot in my work place that i have a issue with it. But these people abuse it -

Jake send me some Coconut infusion oil.

i hear ya. That stereotype is slowly fading away thankfully. lol It really is cool what and how they can control it these days based off what youre looking for. I personally love it for sleep. But yeah message me and we can figure something out AJ.

PS. The recovery on your muscles and relaxation is unreal.

I have 1/2 a Gummy at bedtime and wake up far more rested. Somehow I don’t think I’m slipping into addiction 😂 Smoking it I can’t speak to, but I’ve had no ill effects from my regular ingestion of small amounts.

I didn’t start doing this until it became legal here, and it honestly baffles me that it was ever illegal. It doesn’t really do much for me other than help me sleep. My surgeon’s office didn’t test.

My program encouraged me to continue using, especially given NSAIDS are no longer an option. They did recommend using only edibles and tinctures due to the increased ulcer risk with smoking.

I had to stop partaking, I was honest with my Bariatric Team and I stopped smoking. It's been awhile and I don't have any desire to resume the habit again. I feel better, breathing is great and I'm learning to cope with anxiety in other ways. I want to maximize the opportunity of the sleeve w/o complications of old behaviors.
I can relate 100%!

I am in Cali. Thank god lol. I did my surgery through insurance. I was honest about my marijuana use. I was drug tested and of course that’s all that came up. I wasn’t asked to quit. Although I did 2 weeks before surgery. And have started partaking again about 1 week after. No issues here.

I quit before my consult and actually did not let my bariatric team know. Little did I know, i was self pay so they didnt drug test me anyways lol. But im afraid to smoke now bc i might not listen to my restriction, eat too much and hurt myself. Im not even 2 months out yet tho so who knows what the future holds. I miss it sometimes but have learned to recognize and handle my anxiety very well since quitting about 1.5 years ago. If i ever smoke again, it'll be for recreational use ocassionally and not an every day medication thing like I was doin before.i enjoy being sober minded now:) lucky ur in cali! Live it up! Haha

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

      1. NickelChip

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
