Yes, I agree how frustrating it can be when people don't acknowledge your accomplishments. But I agree that when someone has such a drastic weight loss, some people might assume it's due to an illness, and are simply afraid to ask ("Hey, Mary--you lost weight--you look great!" "Oh thanks, Sue--chemotherapy will do that, you know!")

here is my View: Who gives a F@#ck you are doing this for yourself - Not others

I give a F@#K. Yes I am doing this for myself. I'm also doing it for my family. And I still care what people think. We are social beings and like to be acknowledged for our accomplishments. I don't think I'm the only one who feels that way.

I'm so sorry that people aren't commenting on your hard work! I'm lucky I guess, because my co-workers all know I had weight loss surgery since so many people I work with have done the same and everyone always comments on how much thinner my face is and how much I look like my sister now which is a HUGE compliment as my sister is seventy pounds lighter than me! And at my nieces birthday party in February one of my sisters friends, who I hadn't seen since before I started my weight loss journey in May did an actual double take. She told my sister 'Wow your sister has lost like a hundred pounds since I saw her last, how did she do it?!' and when my sister told me I was so happy for the compliment as at the time I'd lost only 82 pounds since I'd seen her last. I like the compliments so I understand how discouraging it would be that no one is praising your hard work! So I just want to tell you that you're doing amazing and undoubtedly look fabulous and sometime soon people are definitely going to take notice of your efforts! I wish you the best!

I know it’s not the same pose same clothes .... 12/18/19 was sleeve. I only go to the gym (I’m a stay at home mom to 5,4,3,2yr olds)

no one suspects I’m sick- since they see me in the gym at all hours . One spin instructor even made a comment I should teach spin since I’m doing it all the time ...

So yes, I give a damn. Someone comments on ianother persons weight loss in front of me and doesn’t say a word about mine ... rant in rant and raves ... drop mic 🎤

There's definitely a very noticeable difference so... maybe people are just really, really, really unobservant sometimes. I can understand the frustration though and hopefully someone will get clue and say something! You look great though! Good job!

I remember feeling like this too. All at once, people just started noticing. But then again I think people are also so hesitant to comment on weight!! Which I can totally understand!! Hang in there- people will notice!!!!!

Here is a tip, it is time to start wearing form fitting clothing. This was very hard for me as I had always worn loose clothes to hide (I thought) the excess pounds and jiggles. Now I can wear a medium and only jiggle where you want to! Roflmao We all will amaze ourselves daily!

I figure that I was thankful when no one commented when I was *gaining* weight, so I’m going to be perfectly happy for no one to comment on my losses as well!

I hear you. That's what I think too. I think that I'll be glad when people start to notice but at the same time I don't want people asking me a million questions and commenting so much that it gets annoying you know. I don't want to tell everyone all the details. I'd rather them just say I look good or say nothing LOL.

I am ten years out. And had gained 40 pounds in the last 6 years.... Initially had lost 140 pounds.

A year ago I decided to lose weight - the truth - there were no more family members to bury, no more closets to clean out and cry over - I decided to see if I could lose 10 pounds in a year.

I lost 10 in about 3 months, then another 10 .... and in 13 months now, 41 pounds.

It was not until we had to go back to the offices to work that I realized my work clothes FELL off my BUTT. I had to guess sizing, as try on rooms were closed. I put clothing on over my clothes in the store. I had, in the year gone from a 2x to a 16 petite in regular sizes (or 14, if I wanted to hem pants - I don't!)

Once I wore clothing that fit.... people noticed. But they commented on odd things: You changed your hair style.... something's different...

Just laugh !!! You have accomplished something huge in your life. It will make a difference in your life ! Rejoice your accomplishment and buy some new clothing.

My husband NEVER notices weight gains/ losses. Which is awesome when I got super heavy. But now I'm thinning out again(for GOOD) and I'm like, dude where my compliments at? I gotta fish for them sometimes, but once I point out that I've reached certain goals, or that certain things fit/don't fit, he will obvs be excited and supportive. Sometimes ya just gotta go get those notices yourself

I think when a person loses a substantial amount of weight (50 pounds is substantial), some people are afraid to mention it out of fear it might be from a serious medical crisis (cancer, etc). Because their first thought is that has to be it or you (and me) would have lost the weight a long time ago.

I agree with the others than the loss is noticed more if you wear clothing in your new proper size. I know you started this thread months ago so I’m thinking that by now you are being complimented like crazy!

commenting on someone's weight gain/loss is plain rude imho. although, I have noticed that there are many people who are more easily able to spot a 5-10lb weight gain than a 50lb weight loss. go figure. saying "you look great" or something along those Iines is fine and about as much of a compliment as I would give anyone regarding their weight, but when I am on the receiving end, the cynic in me wonders how much of a beast you thought I looked like before. that said, I have noticed that for me at my highest weight, it does take about 50 lbs to get any comment at all. The heavier you are, the more subtle a 50+ lb weight loss is. I have learned to Celebrate my own victories instead of relying on others to encourage me.

congrats to everyone! you all must look great! lol. but seriously, the compliments and encouragement I get from people on these boards is more meaningful than most of the reactions I have gotten from people in my day-to-day life thus far. it's a mixed bag of genuine happiness, surprise, scrutiny, jealousy, etc....

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
