Nauseous 5 weeks post op help!

Recommended Posts

I am 5 1/2 weeks post bypass I progressed smoothly through my stages however for the past 2 days everything is making me nauseous including my Protein Shake. After drinking my Protein shake I got the foamies and slimy stuff. I am trying to keep hydrated. I am only able to eat 3 or 4 baby spoons of food before the nausea kicks in. Has anyone else had this happen and if so how did you overcome it? Thanks!

I was doing fine for about two weeks before I started getting nauseated constantly, but that was because my gallbladder was going out.

I would talk to your doctor or surgeon just to make sure everything is okay.

call your surgeon. Could be a stricture. They happen to about 5% of bypass patients and almost always appear between 1-3 months post-surgery, so you're in the window. If that's what it is, they'll do an EGD and stretch it out. I had two of them (one at four weeks out and the second at eight weeks out). The EGD is painless (you'll be knocked out) and you'll feel better immediately.

also - if you're able to keep fluids down, it should be fine if you can't get in to see someone for a couple of days, but if it gets to the point where you can't even keep fluids down, then go to the hospital. You can live without food for a few days, but not water/fluids.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
