I have moderate osteoarthritis in my right hip and mild osteoarthritis in both knees. Of course, the damage that's been done has been done, but I have MUCH less pain now that I've taken off 200 lbs. I used to get cortisone shots regularly and took naproxen like it was candy. I haven't had an injection in probably three years, and I don't take anything for the pain anymore. When I do get it, it's mild and very tolerable.

Thats truly wonderful..and the amount of weight you have lost is amazing..good on you.I am hoping that by reducing weight i can avoid another knee replacement and hip.I have severe in spots and a few other issues..your news is wonderful.

I am a tad acared as i have had some very bad doctor stuff ups.I have a good surgeon that I am confident in.

I have arthritis in my left knee from a bad accident I was in about ten years ago. It's been impossible to walk around and move, but now that I've lost some weight, I'm not in pain nearly as often. I've only just started losing the weight, but I'm definitely seeing an improvement already.

I'm sure at some point, I'll still need to correct it surgically, but I feel like this is extending my knee's life a bunch and that makes it extra worthwhile to me.

Thankyou..that is good to hear for you..and for my future.I have had to get the knee redone twice..a bad surgeon.I now have big rods in one leg..so thus the weight loss.

Was the initial week really tough..and have tou had any issues with the surgery?

Thankyou

On reflection..please make sure you get a good knee surgeon...double check the person.A wrong surgery can be a real myck up in your life.Good on you though..you sound as if you are doing well C

The first week was actually the *easiest* week for me, but I had a complication with my gallbladder going out on me within my second week (I had it removed a month after my sleeve).

Walking was already getting easier from the pre-surgery diet because I lost about 13lbs before I even had surgery, and you need to be able to walk around as much as possible right afterwards to get that gas out.

And I will find a good doctor, don't worry. ❤️

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
