I went to the grocery store today for something to eat.

For the first time in weeks I was actually starving, belly was empty and howling and I was really low on energy (and problably blood sugar). I at first thought about buying some fast food but then I realized that is a waste of both money and food as I wont eat the burger or chips. Pre surgery mindset catching up with me. Then I thought about cake or Cookies. Then I realized I'm not gonna eat it so why buy it, I glazed at the isle for a looong time in hopes of finding something sweet that I might want.

So I ended up with walking a half hour in the grocery store, trying to find something that I might actually want, and be willing to eat. And it finally dawned on me that the reason why I was glazing and browsing was because I was hungry AF. Before surgery I would just buy something to eat when I was hungry, usually some calorie dense food. And the fat and sugar gave me some satisfaction. It doesn't anymore. Even though I might dream of some fast foods now and then, it really, really isn't good a taste of it, and my mind and my stomach isn't in agreement with each other on this.

Dangerous times. Maybe someday my mind wins over my stomach and I will eat it regardless of taste or satisfaction.

I ended up buying one (yes, one) banana after a half an hours glazing. The people at the grocery store must think I'm insane.

Good job! Not only did you resist the temptation to eat something not good for you, you got in a half hour of walking exercise!

The Grocery store terrible place to go when hungry. Always eat first! Judging by how I read your post it doesnt seem like you were doing actual grocery shopping just looking for something to eat. You would be much better off planning ahead what it is that you want and just buying and preparing.

I usually have a pre prepped meal and some crackers, or nuts. Due to the fact that I don't actually want anthing atm, and everything stuffs me after a bite, I didn't bring with me food to work on this occasion. Simply because I didn't want any of my pre prepped.

Yes, I was just going to store to find something quick and easy.

Plenty of people buy single bananas, Congratulations on the choice 💚

I usually buy them singles ones. With a sliiight brown spot so they are moist enough. Grene nanans are the worst😂

In Norway 2 kgs cost about 2 USD. 1 banana cost 3-4 NOK, not sure what it will be in USD. Around 0,3 Euros.

Met with my surgeon yesterday and he said that he is so excited for me and the progress that will be made! Waiting for insurance pre-auth and then will get everything scheduled!

New found appreciation for you all!
So Im back in the US to take care of my aging father and it seems like more than ever that being bigger is the norm everywhere here. I cant say that Ive been the best, healthiest me at the moment, but I think you all Americans are doing GREAT to even be working towards the goal of getting healthier in face of all this temptation (even if you are a "slow loser"). So give all yourselves a pat on the back!

I am now 10 days post op and I am down 16lbs. I had an allergic reaction to the glue my doctor used so I am still sore and trying to keep moving to not get stiff.

Hello congratulations on your new journey I am 5 days post op and still trying to get the hang of things. I’m supposed to return back to work in a few days but still sore as well. Do you have any advice for me being 5 days post opt?

Hello,  I am brand new on here.
The doctor qualified me yesterday for the surgery, so now I have to take 12 weeks of education classes and then he said they will schedule the surgery 4-6 weeks after I complete the classes.
I am excited to start this new journey.

Am at the half-way mark of the six month pre-op program.  So excited!  Got clearance from psychologist this morning, so I scheduled my surgery consult for early March.  It is becoming more real now.  Have lost 18 pounds so far, since I began this journey on 12/18/19.
