If you can, I would take 4 to 5 weeks off. I too work in the dental field. I know how fatiguing patient care can be. Yes, you are sitting, but we use our core muscles a lot. However, you may be a lot tougher than I am.

Good luck with your upcoming surgery.

I've only been out one week (surgery was last Wednesday) but I'm bored at home and already ready to go back. I have a non-physical office job though! Have been surprised with lack of pain and how well as a whole everything has gone! I have to wait until my post op appointment to be cleared though, but am considering going back Monday!

I also mainly sit for my job and went back after 2 weeks. I still get really tired by the end of the day and wish I could've taken a bit more time. Pain wise it was fine, but you will be adjusting to a whole lot of things.

I was out for two weeks and worked from home for two more weeks. Luckily my work is super flexible and I can do my job from home when needed.

I wish I would have taken 3 weeks just to completely heal and get down the eating and sipping before throwing in work but it worked out.

You should try to take one week off, then work 1/2 days for a week or two. That should be enough

I took three weeks, with one week working from home. I would take a minimum of two weeks if possible. My second week after surgery was a bit hard for me. It got easier from there.

I ended up taking six weeks and I am glad that I did. My big fear was dehydration if I returned to work too early and the extended time also allowed me to really focus on each of the new phases of eating. I know six weeks is a lot so I would say at minimum two weeks-remember, this is abdominal surgery and you will be sore from the bending! Also, while we are in different professions, I do see clients throughout the day and since returning to my sit-down-job it is still hard to get my Water intake in (could be just me but I don’t like to be sipping away while clients tell me their life stories. Feels unprofessional).

I managed with two weeks off, it was exhausting though. I really limited my activity the best I could, but even then I was still walking 5+ miles a day. I just felt so weak, with such little calories and activity, I guess that’s to be expected.

I go back to work tomorrow after a month off. My job is too risky and dangerous to go back so soon after surgery. I work in a psych ward. I personally think everyone should wait a minimum of 3 weeks. I'd also rather go back to work on at least the puree stage rather than liquids.< /p>

I’ll be off a total of 8 weeks but I’m also having 2 surgeries in that timeframe so I know my experience isn’t typical.

I have an office IT job and daily 3hrs of driving. I took 10 days off and went back full days. I had no problem with liquids, Vitamins pain etc. and could have gone back sooner. Its different for everyone. I was tired after each day of work and just went to bed earlier.

I went back after a week. I do have a desk job but I wasn’t tired or anything at the end of the day.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
