21 DAYS SINCE MY RNY AND MY SURGEON CLEARED ME TO EAT WHAT I WANT.

Recommended Posts

AS LONG AS IT ISN'T SUGARS, FATS OR PROCESSED CARBS. I'm cleared to eat what I want. He said he still cannot believe that at 10 days out I was able to eat 4oz of air fried salmon. He said that beef Jerky usually is hard to handle at 2 months. I have been snacking on beef jerky and peanuts since around 15 days out. I was 225 fully dressed with my jacket, knife, smartphone, change, and wallet when I was weighed. The Nurse said; there was no need to remove anything since she couldn't believe the difference since my surgery. My surgeon asked about how I'm doing with my meds, Proteins and fluids, I told him all's good. He looked at my incisions and said I'm healing really fast. So he cleared me to eat my way because it's working. I have my next appointment on February 24th.

I was happy hearing that I wasn't doing any harm to my new stomach pouch. Even his Nurse said she skipped the pureed stage and just could tolerate chicken noodle Soup for a couple of weeks. Everyone on his staff in the back was impressed with what they were calling my cast Iron stomach.

My wife said she is making some air fried turkey smoked sausage cut in 3/8" thick sections, cut up sweet potato, brussel sprouts, onions, carrots, drizzled on melted Country Crock light margarine and lightly sprayed canola oil. One of my favorites. My wife Betty is a sweet woman!

Well Betty is still a good woman but she changed her mind and made some chili for the first time since before my surgery. I had to add some more chili powder and some minced garlic to mine but it was very good. I stopped eating 6oz of chili around 20 minutes ago and so far no Gastric distress. Super happy with my results so far. I hope everyone heals up with no problems and finds some new and old healthy meals that makes them happy.

I think your surgeon removed your organic stomach and put a cast Iron pouch in its place! I'm two months out and just started eating artificial meat a week ago...glad to hear you are doing well! The weight is falling off of you!

I am still ok from the chili earlier nothing except for a couple of good farts already. So I'm going to eat another few ounces of the chili around 4:00 CST.

Great news, Steve! I am 8 weeks out and will t even try dehydrated anything at this point. I tolerated most everything with my sleeve but rny is a whole other ballgame. I am just now starting to tolerate meat.

I figured that I won't know what I can handle unless I try it. I figured my surgeon wouldn't like the smoked beef Jerky that I had been using as a snack. He just kept looking like I can't believe I never regurgitated once since surgery and I can advance in my stages so easy. He just smiled and said he wishes he could bottle my success and prescribe it to all his patients. Made me feel better knowing that I wasn't going to get an a$$ chewing from my surgeon.

And personally I prefer the restriction

I'll be 3 months out in a week and I'm still only eating max 3oz tuna at a time or a few slices of ham or 4oz yoghurt; there are still things that come back up...

I'm in no hurry to eat big portions; the whole idea of surgery is to limit your portions.

So I say you've got a double edged sword mate.

Hopefully your weight loss doesn't get affected from all your intake...

Also Jerky is very salty...

Still need to keep an eye on calories and Protein and fat and carbs...

I look at the labels on all the foods I eat. There's a website called fatSecrets.com that I use to figure the items content that don't have labels like vegetables and fruits. I hope fatSecrets can help others on here. I don't know why I never put it's website on here before now. First thing I get in is Proteins, vegetables, then fruits if any room exist. One to two times a week I'll have a 6oz bowl of oatmeal with a some stevia and cinnamon in it for Breakfast. And I just add a meal of just proteins to offset.

I personally wasn't loosing weight till I took my calories from 600 to 800 calories a day then finally the scale started sliding down. As far as salty, I make my own smoked beef Jerky so the salt content is minimal compared to store bought jerky. I still have a lot of muscle mass under my fat layer, it needs to be fed also so I can keep it. I dropped 57lbs or so before surgery. So what I'm doing is working for me and my surgeon. Everyone is different.

Protein is first. Can't stand olives or Olive oils, so I use canola oil minimally in spray form. I do use some butter substitute for flavor from time to time, but never have been a butter nut like my wife. If she could, butter would be slathered on everything. As far as carbs go, vegetables I'll eat after Proteins if room allows. Only other carbs come from oatmeal 1 to 2 times a week. I don't eat breads, pastas, rice (except once had a taste of brown rice 1/4 teaspoon to see if my pouch could handle it). No processed carbs in other words. I'm already lighter than when I married my wife just about 20 years ago. My surgeon said I'm doing great, I feel great as well. Hope everyone is doing great on here!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
