Multivitamin without B9 (Folic Acid) during Chemo

Recommended Posts

I recently started chemotherapy to treat bladder cancer and my doctor said I can't take any B9 (Folic Acid) in my Vitamins. The reason is that B9 helps cell growth, and they don't want to encourage cell growth. He was specifically concerned with the 200% RDA that my current Vitamin contains. Does anyone know of a good vitamin to take that doesn't have folic acid?

Thanks for your help.

I don't know the answer on your Vitamin question, but I wanted to tell you I'm praying for you as you go through chemo and I'm wishing you the best.

I did a quick search and found these. So there are some out there. You will have to search them out.

https://www.amazon.com/Dr-Fuhrman-Gentle-Care-Formula/dp/B004L176J2

Also look for MTHFR mutation. People with this can't handle man made folic acid. So there are Vitamins made without it.

Only idea I have is to buy several mixes and take dosage of each.

Vitamin A D E K together is commonly available even in bariactric formulas

Vitamin C alone very common

You can get each Vitamin B separate to avoid Folic Acid

Avoid Vitamin B Complex as all have Folic Acid.

I would check with your bariatric center to figure out necessary mineral supplements.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
