I actually prefer not to die

Recommended Posts

It does feel like I'm slowly dying, and my body can't do the things my brain wants to do, like hiking, working on my cars, and (not to be too politically incorrect), competitive shooting.

Hey man, participating in 3-gun competitions and doing some long-range shooting in a prone position are on my WLS bucket list of things I can't do today, but will be able to by year's end.

I'm two weeks out from the surgery and let me tell you, I was absolutely convinced I was going to die on that operating table. I think that's the self talk I used for the last 15 years or so to avoid WLS. However, I did my homework and picked an experienced surgeon and made peace with the possibility I might be saying goodbye to my wife and daughter, but they'd be saying hello to a much improved husband and father if I woke up after.

Turned out, the surgery was a snap for me. Basically no pain or issues what-so-ever and I'm just kicking myself that I didn't get it done sooner. All I can recommend is making peace with the remote possibility of dying and taking the plunge. I can tell you my life is changing for the better every day!

Too bad you are in Colorado, it might be fun to compete with someone with similar issues. I'd like to be able to squat again. While shooting. Not to mention the back pain. UUGH. Can't even stand for for than a couple minutes with a rifle.

Haha... I can relate... except I didn't have time to be very nervous because my husband was the one telling me I was going to die in surgery (he did NOT want me to do it). I had to make sure my will was done. I had to make sure I gathered all the information about our bank accounts (hubby doesn't access them). and so on and so forth. Everything I did pre-op was to ease his nerves. But the truth is... "I" don't have complicated surgeries (unlike my husband). And while this IS major surgery... it is also not very risky comparatively to so many other surgeries. In fact, it is pretty routine now. So sure, get your affairs in order... but also get ready for the next step in your new life!

I don't have any family, and (as you can tell from my abrasive personality) my co-workers are already fighting over my estate. I'm tempted to just throw them the keys and the safe combination and have them fight it out (that would be fun) except for the car titles and 401K.

I was thinking of making a lampshade from my old stomach. I wonder what that would cost?

My primary physician sent me to him. Ideally, I was looking for a bariactric surgeon who was female and hot with big boobs, but I'll settle for a guy with 3000 (successful?) surgeries.

Is he with TMC? I think he is my friends doc. I had surgery at UMC.

Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
