Actually, I did not lose it in 12 months. I had sleeve surgery in 2017 - had a leak and was in hospital for 3 months, lost some. Gained a lot back. Had Bypass surgery in February. Have lost and gained and lost again.

As for 'fake news'... Do you really believe that everyone loses at the same rate regardless of age, gender, genetics? Really? I'm not sure your science holds up.

But, at the end of the day, you have you ask yourself at some point... is it better to be right or kind? You have proven your point and made sure people know you are right. Now it's time to be kind.

Whether it is physical or mental, there are people who lose slowly and you have made your point on the scientific aspect of this. Now it's time for you to let people talk about what they want and need to talk about as part of THEIR weight loss journey. You do your journey and let others do theirs.

I am over 60 years old and rather sedentary by nature. So let's see, that blows the old and no exercise theory. Oh year, I have high BP and am hypoglycemic with borderline t2 diabetes . So there goes those false flags.

what I believe is, it is much "kinder" to be honest with people that you can really help, than it is to be complicit in prepetuating a false narative to appease a few people who have other issues or motives.

Holy crap, there are posts that claim individuals burn 3500 + calories per day and can't lose weight ! How do you think that resonates with an obese bed bound individual who is trying to make an intelligent decision about the rest of their life ?

So no, as long as this urban myth thread or one like it exists, I will post the science. Sorry.

And as you say, people can and should talk about their weight loss journey (I'm one of them). But this is a feedback forum, and it would seem that if you want to really help people, you have to call out the BS.

So you don't think that a life time of bad habits, ways of thinking, periods, menopause, various hormonal ailments, childbirth, various abuses that people suffer, genetics, medications, etc etc etc have any factor? Holy ****, you should write a book on this because you might be on to a winner. You would make a mint.

(That was a rhetorical question btw - not going to discuss this anymore. You made your scientific point and it's up to whoever to take that on board or not.)

I had my rny surgery on 12/9/19 and my 2week post op I lost 10 pounds but since then nothing. I have a hard time with the shakes so I know I am not getting my Protein in. It’s also hard for me to be active do to my AS flaring up. Do you guys have any help or advice for me? I just feel alone and lost

Hi Stefani - what food stage are you on now? I think typically people are off of the shakes by now and on to soft foods. The shakes are good for the first stage after surgery to get that Protein in, but after that it can be quite calorific and you should be getting your protein from more dense foods. Try not to get too disheartened. From what I have found, weight loss can come in fits and starts and sometimes there is no rhyme nor reason. Just stick with the plan and take it day by day and you will be fine x

I thought this was supposed to be a positive board. Simply put everyone’s body and metabolism are not the same. We all know this so If I chose to say that I lose at a slower rate than someone else, sometimes it can be frustrating, then I move past it - then this should be a space to do so, without being put down or bombarded with “scientific facts” that is also not one size fits all. We all have our days where we may compare ourselves to others and then we are realistic and understand that we are not all the same and are thankful for what we have been able to do and the accomplishments we have made so far. Diet, exercise and genetics all play it’s roles in our weight loss as well as gain. Providing informative information and helpful is one thing but I do not understand the need to put others down.

Agreed. The message has been communicated and the facts that we can and should derive from it are tipping from helpful into hurtful. The message is being lost in the way it is being harped on. We get it...

You may notice that about 90 to 95% of the posters in this thread are women and yes, it has been proven that men TYPICALLY lose faster than women.

Please give us credit for some intelligence and the ability to read and take what we know to be true and/or our questions back to our professionals and find ways to work with/deal with and continue on our WL journey whether we are losing 10 lbs a month, 5 lbs or have stalled.

Fluffly's definition of what her team determines to be a stall was helpful. I think much good can come from this thread. The majority, to me at least, seem to be interested in getting clarification, are acknowledging things they are facing they can't do anything about - menopause, etc. while also admitting things they need to do something about.

I personally know that I will not consider the month of December in my weight loss average as I went on a cruise, admitted to gaining 1 lb and I know that will skew my results.

We also have been around long enough to help newbies, as i was shocked that my first month loss was so low but my preop had been SO LONG (switched dr's - long story) and the way the surgery impacted me...my weight didn't really start moving until weeks 3 and 4. It was good to hear that this happens for others. In fact my surgery sibling group had me back away from the scale. NONE of us were, at that point..or almost none of us..eating more than 400 calories so we knew even w/o exercise that the scale would INDEED MOVE.

I was still supplementing with shakes through month 5 (not every day), but definitely while still in first 2 months to hit my Protein goals. You need the protein to heal from the surgery. From what I have read and encountered here, losing 10 lbs in your first two weeks is awesome. Several of us had swelling, Water gain from the surgery/IV fluids, etc. and our overall first month weight loss ranged from 7 lbs to 15. 10 is great for an entire month!

I take it your surgeon is aware of your AS, what limitations does it give you when it flares up? I know that some people will just walk throughout their house and I've seen them hitting amazing #'s doing this...to get things moving not only physically but to help with the gas pains from surgery and to get things literally moving everywhere.

Are you able to do this?

It is true that they pack a lot of calories...I was getting in, during pureed and soft foods...maybe 1 or 1.5 or on days when pouch rebelled against what I tried, it would take hours but I'd get in 2..so overall less than 400 calories but good point to start getting Protein from real food sources as soon as possible...I know my surgeon's office started pushing this around month 3 but I know everyone's input from their team may vary...lol...that is for sure...

I personally recommend that everyone on this thread, if you haven't done so already, make sure to ready Fluffychix's 'Importance of doing the Head Work' as I feel the wealth of info, the videos, input, etc. will help answer many questions and will help ensure we all stay in the right mindset to keep accounting and on top of the things within our control.

I've seen Fluffy's weight loss month average timeline and trust me, that chica fought for her weight loss every step of the way and hung in there and look at where she is! Don't get discouraged! The 2 year outcomes for people who truly work their plan, check in with vets, their surgeon, their nutrition, their specialists, EXERCISE, etc. are very similar to those who dropped weight fast!

Stick around, do the work, don't give up!

I'm also an advocate for real food. Many of you see my daily menus...and you know I still love my PP in my coffee to replace cream or Creamers and it gives me a leg-up on Protein for the day so I can have more veg if I want them...but true story... :D

I felt like I started losing more consistently once I got to the real food stage where I was actually eating lean Proteins and veg with only a small amount of fat.

The Protein Drinks in quantity really gave me an insulin spike and made losing very slow. Plus they made me retain Fluid in my legs and lymphedema arm. Especially the whey protein isolates. It wasn't bad with PP cuz it has both concentrate and isolates.

Just thought I'd mention that...so try for patience and see if you start losing better with real food!

Thanks for this reminder. I forget that some of the drinks cause people more significant issues than others..

Yes I think it's people with hormone imbalances especially: PCOS, peri meno and post meno who seem the most effected. Also people with underlying kidney/liver issues as well.

      Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

      Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
