@Serengirl I checked my stats. I lost 34.8 pounds at my 3 month mark. Are you on any medications? I talked to my Dr after I read about a medication I was on (beta blocker) caused weight gain, I switched meds and it helped speed up my metabolism a bit. It wasn’t dramatic but it did help.

I also switched up my diet and ate pretty clean for 3 months and avoided processed food. Keep moving, journal everything you eat and research any medications you are taking.

The statement that one can run a 3000 calorie a day deficit for weeks and weeks and not lose a pound is simply ludicrous.

Call the CDC and donate your body to science. Call CNN and tell the world how you have changed the fundemental laws of physics, nature and energy.

But please dont go on a web forum that is full of people tying to make their lives better, and make them think there just might be some reason, other than eating too much, for why they are not losing weight, and even worse, gaining weight.

Sure steroids make you hungry (which means you eat more) and Water retention Adds temporary weight, but to portend that you for some reason are exempt from all known and logical facts is not doing anyone any good. Especially you.

They simply don't have this kind of deficit, even though if they sometimes might think they have.

To have a 3000 kcal deficit a day one must have a really high TDEE. People usually have much smaller deficits than this and therefore of course don't lose 7 lbs a week. Even if one is eating only 500 kcal a day that means a TDEE of 3500 kcal minimum a day and we're usually not talking about the 186 cm tall, 25 year old very active male on this board.

Most people overestimate the amount of calories they're burning and underestimate the amount of energy they're consuming. Even if people are "measuring everything" - how do people measure? Cups and spoons or gram?

Bull crap?

You know what bull crap is? The amount of calories burnt your tracker shows on the display at the end of your workout and unless you really had your resting metabolism rate tested and know how many calories you're burning at rest, everything about your daily deficit is guesswork.

There is virtually no such thing as "I eat like a bird, but can't lose weight" . It is a self delusional fantasy like, I'm not a drug addict, but I use heroin every day. This may sound harsh, but obesity is as dangerous as narcotics in the long term.

If you have gone to the trouble of getting WLS then please use all it has to offer, without making nonsensical excuses that will hold you and others back.

I doubt that since all of these TDEE calculators and resting metabolism calculators neither take body fat/lean body mass ratio into the equation nor interpersonal differences aside from gender and maybe age.

For obese individuals these calculator usually spit out values that are overestimating energy expenditure since body fat to LBM ratio is usually different than in a normal weight individual.

I lost slowly as well. If a firm believer that my body did what was best for me. I can't help but to thing of the Tortoise and the Hare parable and it always comforted me.

Great analogy, tortoise and the hare and great outlook as well. I'm definitely in this slow losers club. I hit my 3 month stall and the scale hasn't moved for 3 weeks now. I'm still eating between 500 and 800 calories a day. I hit my Protein goal every day and I have significantly upped my Water intake to 100-120 oz a day now. I mountain hike 5 miles at a time, 3 times a week and do yoga twice a week. I know it will come off. It has to. It does get frustrating though. But I'm a tortoise not a hare; I will finish strong not fast.

and the inches will come off to help you get into smaller sizes. I also upped my Protein last week. I was avg 65-80. I am up to 95.

Maybe it's just a sign I've been on BP too long, but over and over again I have seen people complain that they are slow losers, but are actually just average or even fast losers.

How much of THE SLOW LOSERS CLUB is actually the Unrealistic Expectations Club?

I'm not at all saying there aren't slow losers. Life is a bell curve, and there are half as many people on each end. But I think the attitude displayed by those like @FluffyChix, @Cheeseburgh and others are what make the difference. I mean even for slow losers, isn't weight loss the fastest after WLS then any other "diet"? Even most slow losers get to -100 lbs or more in a year or so.

I just think labeling yourself a slow loser can be self defeating at times and seems very dysmorphic at others.

You are not alone! You had your surgery 12 days before me and I am also a slow loser. I am down 50, so it's around 14 a month on average which I could never maintain prior to surgery. My most recent nutritionist visit she practically told me to double my calories a day ( I did not) But I do get to 800 a couple days a week, and the scale has been moving, but slow. Maybe try adding an extra 100 calories a day and see what that does for you? If you get the scale moving again (and you will) let me know what you did to help things along!
I totally agree with this. As soon as I added 100 to 150 calories a day (I max at 800ish), i have consistently been losing close to 1/2 lb a day! We have to realize even 800 a day is a pretty big calorie deficit as most of us are well over 200 lbs when we start

I'm losing on average 3 lbs a week and I'm happy because before surgery I had trouble losing weight every damn day of my life. 5 years ago I lost 85, it crept back on and I had so much trouble since. I'm down 30.5 since surgery 5 weeks ago and I am not complaining.

I truly am in the slow losers club. And most of the time I stayed super upset about it, but I try to focus on the fact I HAVE lost significant weight for the first time in over 35 years.
I had my surgery a year ago, and needed to lose about 150 lbs. I’ve lost 70 lbs. however, I have only lost about 10 lbs in the last 5 months. Still get in about 90 gms of Protein, drink my Water, stay under all carbs and sugar amounts.
I go to the dr this week for my one year check up. Am very anxious to hear what he had to say.
Again, while I had surely hoped to have lost more by now, I’m so thankful I’ve lost and feel so much better!!!!

      Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

      Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
