Hello,

I had my bypass in August 2019 and everything was going great.

However, about 2 months post op, I started experiencing some dizzy episodes where my limbs would go weak, my head start spinning and I would get either white bright spots or fully dark vision. I also noticed that it is particularly bad while I'm in the shower and I have actually collapsed a few times now.

Has anybody else experienced this? Normally I lay on the floor and take deep breaths and it passes after 20 minutes but leaves me drowsy and delirious.

I'm just waiting for results from my drs after I had a blood test and an ECG. The nurse told me that my heart rate was a little slow on the ECG.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I find the episodes very scary.

Many thanks!

I dont have any advice. This also happens to me on occasion. Hot Water and low blood pressure seems to be the ingredients to this issue or has for me anyway. I try to take cooler showers and that seems to help.

How's your iron/vitamin D intake? Protein macros? Hydration? Also, how rapidly you move. I have to be careful of that because I'm usually rushing too quickly, and this was ESPECIALLY true the first 12 months out of surgery

I put a safety bar in my shower. My advice would be to see your doctor. It could be a lot of things.

check with your PCP - could be a lot of things. Some patients have trouble with orthostatic hypotension when standing up suddenly - but it could be a number of things. I had some issues about two years out. Everything was normal the day of my workup (they pretty much checked EVERYTHING), but they think it might have been, for me at least, reactive hypoglycemia - and if so, my glucose level just happened to be normal at the time they checked it. They also checked me for inner ear issues (which controls balance), urinary-related issues, God knows what else in my blood, etc. Just telling you this because there could be a lot of causes for that.

This happens to me and I was diagnosed with orthostatic hypotension post-op. If you have a BP cuff, check your BP when this is happening and also while sitting and then 1 minute after standing up.

Gotta wait for the labs. Could be Anemic or hypoglycemic or hypotension or... anything . My resting heart rate is between 40 and 50 ( beta blockers ) and that's after cutting the dose in half. At least I don't feel like I'm going to pass out anymore. Could you please follow up when you find out ? Be well :)

I’ve experienced this from time to time, I try not to take really hot showers and i kind of assumed my blood sugar might be low since it was hours since I’ve eaten and my body was adjusting to my new lifestyle. I have found that drinking apple juice or something that is 100% juice helps and possibly taking a zofran if I’m nauseous too. And of course sit down as soon as you start feeling like this

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
