Why Am I Always Cold ?

ok this i have discussed alot trying to figure it out. I was 252lbs heaviest before my gastric bypass back in October and i was never a person to feel cold unless its snowing outside. And i live in south central Texas , but the thing is now that i had my surgery and lost just about 40lbs, im always feeling cold and what makes it worse is the current time of year and my parents always have the thermostat set to 60-65F IN THE HOUSE even during winter!

HELP!

It's mostly the calorie restriction. The inner furnace doesn't like calorie restriction. You can even notice it while doing IF.

Worth mentioning it to your team because sometimes after surgery the thyroid can go loopy which would make you cold, BUT you have lost 40lbs of heat holding insulation too.

Last winter here in UK I slept with a t-shirt and summer quilt on allllllllllll winter and I would moan at the husband and kiddo for turning the heatin up. WELL, this winter I am in bed with a 10.5 tog quilt on, nighty, pj bottoms AND a hoddie haha and the heating is set to 20 degrees c, where as last year I moaned when it was 17-18c!!

Very common. I had surgeon in Feb. i noticed it right away. It was a great summer not feeling too hot. I am now at a maintenance weight, am colder than in the past but on par to friends that are within a normal BMI. So I think it may have improved although since it's now winter it's harder to judge. I do feel chilly in the freezer section at grocery stores but it's bearable.

I am freezing all the time. I just cant get warm. Last year I keep the electric blanket on 1 or turned it off, this year I sleep with it on 3.

Prior to surgery I was hot all the time and sweat profusely when it was more than about 80 degrees. Now that I've lost over 100 pounds and am in maintenance, I'm cold most of the time, which I actually welcome. I no longer sweat in the summer!

Agree that a large part of it is the calorie restriction. Your body expends calories just keeping itself warm, and you are eating a lot less so it's burning most of that fuel keeping your body alive, so it's turned the thermostat down to save energy! I'm down 20 pounds and I'm FREEZING!! Even the hot flashes are so minor I almost don't notice them now.

You can have your thyroid levels checked as part of your routine bloodwork but with all the physical changes from surgery it does effect hormones and likely, temperature regulation.

for me, I still seem to run hot even when I’m cold ... (not that it makes any sense)

just know it’s pretty normal to deal with changes as you progress that lead you to question if you are normal or not ...

Great thread i thought i was losing my mind - Plus I live in SW Florida - Naples and I am freezing my ass off all the time, Thought i was just losing it.

Myself and three other friends who have had WLS all experience being cold AND discomfort when sitting on hard surfaces. (Less padding in the derrier)

haha yes I never had much of a butt but I had forgotten quite how boney it is without the excess, I have to reposition myself if I'm on hard chairs to try and get the right, most padded spot!

Have you had your thyroid levels checked post-op?
