I’m 8 weeks post op and down 60lbs . I’ve been walking since before surgery but I want to start lifting. I mentioned it to my surgeon and he was hesitant with the green light. I feel fine.
Just thought id ask and see what your surgeon may have recommended.

thanks so much!

Mine said "listen to your body" She told me I wasn't going to rip out my stomach because her work was that good. After 4 weeks I was back on full duty. I wasn't lifting"weights" per se' but I was doing physical labor. I have to admit I lost a ton of strength and was feeling . weak because I was overdoing it. I failed to hydrate enough, and still do . In short ...just listen to your body.

My instructions are strictly no lifting over 10 pounds for the first 8 weeks. I would think you should be fine now but your dr really should have told you yes or no.

it could tire you out really quickly and dont do anything too heavy but i started back with weights around week 7 or 8 and listen to your body! Even now my workouts are exhausting to me but i workout on average 6 times a week.

Congrats and fantastic weight loss.

Everyone’s surgeons’ instructions are different. None of us have the same release to lift time frame. Hope you get the professional green light soon.

I was not released to do cross fit for 5 months - Even today if i push it i can feel the tightness in my little belly, I would take your time and start out doing cardio - I was able to do that 4 weeks post op and just recently have moved on to cross fit =

Nothing to do with your post BUT I HATE CROSS FIT! but need to do it to tighten up! That was my vent for the day and i just got done with cross fit so I am crabby

im post op 2 months also. You don't want to rush extreme lifting though because i have a abdominal hernia from my daughters cesarean that happened 5 years ago because i went working too soon and lifted too much. I goto the gym now but im not bench pressing anything . I started a light workout with a weighted ball that was simply 10 pounds and i would sit on my butt and place the ball to the left , right , then back left again and it didn't strain anything. Everybody is different but just be on the safe side.

I hope everyone is having a lovely week so far!
It's been a bit of a struggle this last week...I'm hungry ALL the time.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
