Dr. Doesn’t require protein?b

Recommended Posts

Does anyone’s surgeon not require a ton of Protein Shakes, especially the premade ones ?? I’ve heard that some do not make it a requirement. Just trying to get some information. Thanks!

Hi. I couldn’t imagine any bariatric surgeon not requiring their patient to get Protein in post op. It is very important for healing.

The cardinal rule for bariatric patients post op and for life is “protein first”

i had sleeve in 2018 and revision to bypass last Friday. Both surgeons required 60grams of protein post op.

Good luck with your research and hope that helped.

Maybe your friend is misunderstanding the directions. Any site you look at Protein is a requirement. I would ask your friend to call the nutritionist \ surgeons office to verify instructions.

My doctor didn't push Protein Shakes for the pre-op diet. He says you just need to eat Protein and veggies.

He still wants me to get in at least 90 grams of protein.

Still protein is king even if it is not through protein shakes.

I am doing shakes anyway cause it easier than cooking.

I'm betting your friend's doctor is Dr. Matthew Weiner in Arizona? If so, his plan is a sound one. In the early days there are shakes, but as his patients heal they follow the Pound per Day plan of his. It's veggies, nuts, seeds, legumes and small amounts of Protein.

Everyone’s surgeons plan is different.

Don’t worry about what your friend is doing. Concentrate on your own instructions.

The mantra “protein first” is when your surgery restriction is new. Your stomach is healing. It’s a challenge to consume 60 grams with limited stomach space. You don’t have room for any of the other items allowed on your plan.

Most dieticians don’t want patient’s to be reliant on shakes long term. As progress out from surgery, you can easily get your Protein with real whole foods and have no need for shakes.

It’s not that I’m worried about what she’s doing. I was curious. More because I myself am not a fan of premade Protein. But I have no issues with my surgeons instructions.

For anyone interested. Check out the video below. Not her Dr. but I follow him and he’s quite interesting. He’s VERY blunt/crass, but gets points across.

Pretty sure that many of us here have watched at least a few of his videos. Agreed that he is interesting and entertaining.

I do use Bone Broth, fairlife milk and some other high Protein liquids as well. Not just the premade shakes.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
