When will I be able to work a normal schedule?

Recommended Posts

I am nearly 3 weeks out and still have 2-3 days a week that I am too weak and sick feeling to work. I have had to back down on diet advance due to nausea, dizziness, and cold sweats. I don’t want to eat or drink anything. I do, very slowly, as I can. I’m starting to wish I had never done this. I’m 63 and maybe I was just too old. When will I start feeling even close to normal?

I would speak to your surgeon and nutritionist. I am 56 had my sleeve 8/15 and was back at work in 2 weeks. I could have gone back sooner but work in the school system so purposely planned it so I'd have 2 weeks off. Feel better.

Hi Scisue! I am also from Missouri! Anyway, I have an office job but I spend half my day on my feet. The first day I went back I realized how weak I felt. It has gotten a lot better, I am 6 weeks out and feel about normal. One day you will realize, wow I feel better! I hope that is soon for you.

This is still knocking the hell out of me - I was weak and drained for 60 days, However after i Screwed up post op i got my stuff togethor on the Vitamins and minerals and balanced out. You may have your supplements messed up and it is not the surgery it is the lack of nutrients. I just did a post yesterday on this exact subject read it. I was focused on losing weight and did not realize i was nutrient deficient. Once i got that balanced work was a ton easier

My surgery is scheduled on November 13th. The nurse practitioner I saw at the surgeon's office said I could be off up to 6 weeks - so I am going to take the 6 weeks and let my body and mind heal. I have enough PTO and don't feel the need to rush back to the office.

Honestly my energy level was very low until 5-6 weeks post op. My doc gave me 8 weeks off. I am glad he did. I was shotting for 6, but doc insisted on 8.

I'm 5 weeks post op, will be 6 weeks this coming Tues. I too have just recently gotten some energy back. I'm not at the level before surgery but I dont feel the need to sleep as soon as i get home from work. My doctor had me go back to work after 2 weeks. The first week back was difficult but it gets better everyday.

2 weeks post-op today for me, was back at work the Monday after my surgery (on a Tuesday). Haven't really felt much fatigue or anything. Different for everyone I guess.

That's my goal, to not rush back & be 200%. Mind, body and soul...I want 4-5 weeks, my job is stressful and I will only focus on self during my time after the procedure. 2 weeks for me, isn't enough time, I have expressed my desire to be able to heal upfront.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
