Big Ass Salad:IMG_5275.thumb.JPG.6adf93788eea71614b711bb3fd31f511.JPG

salad Totals: 166 cals; 8g protein; 9g fat; 14g carbs; 4g fiber; 10g net carbs. (I wasn't concerned about not having 1 g of Protein for every 10 calories in this meal cuz I was already gonna be plenty high in the Protein department from all the other meals during the day.) And I see I forgot arugula! BBIAF. Corrected!

Are you effing kidding me. That Big Ass Salad is the stuff my dreams are made of.

And it looks so restaurant-y 🤤

Are you getting your Water in?

btw...I am totally addicted to the cayenne in my coffee now (as I type here I've got a 20oz-er that I am nursing, LOL)...I also find that the cayenne seems to hold hunger/cravings/whatever at bay...but it may just be a coincidence, will monitor for the next couple days and see if there really is a connection...

Add a squeeze of lemon to that, and a bag each of green tea and Earl Grey + a shot of ACV and you have MY favorite morning drink.

oh, and @FluffyChix: I did some experimenting with the ingredients you mentioned yesterday (sorry if my nerd is showing...)

NOTES: I didn't have any lemon, but I did have lime.

RESULTS:

  • Made one with coffee w/ stevia, lime, earl grey, green tea & ACV + cayennne...did not like it. I think because of the lime. I couldn't taste any Green Tea nor ACV.
  • Ditched the lime, upped the ACV...can taste the ACV now, but did not like it. Still could not taste the green tea
  • Ditched the ACV & the green tea...YUMMMMMMM.
  • Mr. said "add some Tumeric, it's good for you". Didn't change the taste but keeping in there cuz its good for me, LOL.

CONCLUSION:

  • My new fave drink is now: 20 oz Coffee + 1/8 tsp stevia + Earl grey teabag + 1/8 tsp Cayenne + optional 3/4 tsp Tumeric
  • When I get some lemon I'll do a couple more experiments.
  • Also thinking on days I need some extra cals and fats, I can put in some coconut milk.

I am getting aprox 80 oz of liquid in a day. I think my hunger was from the change in diet and my body getting used to low carb. I'm hoping if I keep it up a couple more days it will get easier. I'm down to 180.6 lbs this morning from 184.6 sunday morning!!!! So thankfully I'm seeing some results from my hard work.

Yesterday, Thursday, Dec. 12
Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 114.9 lbs

----------------------------------------
3.5 hour lunch date with BFF yesterday. We went to a Chinese restaurant and then to a tea and dessert place. We shared a shaved ice dessert that was topped with sweet stuff and condensed milk (see the pic below...it's not the one we actually ate, because I forgot to take a pic, but its from the restaurants website). Anyhoo as you can see it is sugar overload. I had about maybe a 1.5 cups of it total and surprise, surprise, I got me some runs later on. Though it was actually kinda welcome cuz I hadn't pooped in about 3 days. So (TMI ALERT)....

...after I got to pass that "plug" (omg, I thought I was giving birth again) it was all watery nastiness after that. Sorry for the graphics. Then of course, I was hungry afterwards!

On another note, I went for a run this AM with Mr. and he got me to do some sprinting intervals, and I think I'm going to be sore tomorrow.
----------------------------------------

9:30am - Coffee-Tea-Cayenne w/ stevia

11:00am to 3:00pm - 3 oz crispy skin chicken dark meat + 1/2 cup braised eggplant & ground pork + 1 king oyster mushroom and 1 broccoli floret + 1 tbsp Sriracha + 1 tbsp hot chili oil + 1.5 cups mixed fruit tea + 1.5 cups shaved ice dessert (see below)

7:00pm - salad w/ vinaigrette + 1 slice bacon + 1/2 fl oz pumpkin seeds + 1/2 tbsp grated parm cheese + 3 oz meatloaf w/ Keto ketchup glaze + 2 oz grilled chicken + 1.5 oz chicharron

10:00pm - 1/2 cup cottage cheese + 1/2 oz pumpkin seeds + 2 oz blueberries + 2 tbsp dried cranberries

----------------------------------------

Totals: 1608 cals - 117g Protein - 79g NET carbs - 102g fat

----------------------------------------

Yesterdays Dessert (for reference), though ours didn't have the orange chunks nor the ice cream, but it did also have peanuts and crunchy oats. I ate less than 1/4 of it. It was HUGE. Plus we were chatting away so it melted and lost its appeal, lol.

Speaking of learning something new, chayarg, you have inspired my latest fave drink!
I tried the cayenne in cold Water yesterday --> it didn't mix in very well and I accidentally drank some clumpy fire bombs of powder that I needed to down some milk to put out.
Then an hour or so later (I needed to recover!) I put some in hot water, it was ok, but nothing I would be interested in re-creating.
Then this morning, I was having my coffee w/ stevia in it and thought hey, this could use some kick, and voila! My new fave drink was born.
[emoji4]

Just added cayenne into my coffee and it is awesome!!! Cant believe I never thought of trying it. Thanks for the idea.

Yesterday, Friday, Dec. 13
Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 115.3 lbs

----------------------------------------
Didn't eat much during the day yesterday...was picking at a Ginormous salad all afternoon, but by dinnertime what was left was too soggy to be appetizing, so I tossed it (SACRILEGE!!). Went out with Mr, BFF and Mr.BFF last night to a dive bar that was having a Kareoke night, and got myself good and toasted for a swing at the mic. Then they had probs with the sound system so I was NOT able to belt out my rendition of Titanium. Bummed! So we played drunk tipsy pool instead. Good Times. Well, at least it was until I had the bright idea of ordering a round of B-52 shots and a slice of warm apple pie with ice cream because I saw a waitress walk by with a tray of it for the group beside us. It was not pretty 45 mins later.

To add insult to injury, I didn't go for a run for a pick-me-up this morning as its raining :(. If I can get my lazy ass to the gym later, I'll get a run in on the treadmill.

P.S. I just asked Mr. what he thought about buying a treadmill, and he's all "NO, come on let's go to the gym" 🙄
----------------------------------------

9:30am - Coffee-Tea-Cayenne w/ stevia

12:00pm to 6:00pm - about 1/2 in total of my Ginormous Salad which originally consisted of: salad w/ vinaigrette + carrots + cucumber + 1 avocado + 3 oz pan fried chicken

9:00pm to 2:00am -

  • 4 buffalo chicken wings w/ 2 tbsp blue cheese dip & 1 tbsp hot sauce
  • 4 carrot spears
  • 1/2 skewer pork souvlaki w/ 2 tbsp tzatziki
  • 2 onion rings
  • 2 gin and sodas w/ extra lime
  • 2 tequila shots
  • 1/2 slice warm apple pie w/ 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream
  • 1 B-52 shot

Sorry you didn't like the ACV. It's an acquired taste I guess! LOL. I like it cuz it's "supposed" to help your gut biome. Dunno bout that, but I do it and feel pretty good!

I did try your cayenne in the coffee! It's delish and does have an appetite killing effect on me as well! I like adding it with ground cinnamon (to lower insulin). And it's the bomb dot com adding an ounce of chocolate premier protein! Kinda like Mexican hot chocolate!

Thanks for doing the R&D on it and coming up with some cool ideas!!! Will have to try the Earl Grey with the coffee!

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

      1. NickelChip

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?
      1. NickelChip

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

    • Clueless_girl

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?
      1. NickelChip

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
