I get really hot and sweats but it doesn't do it every time, its weird. I am guessing it is because its the first thing to hit my stomach in the morning and I use vanilla Creamer.

Oh yeah, I dump. Most definitely. I've had real doozies before. I have not-so-fond memories of wanting to die on bathroom floors, simultaneously barfing and explosive pooping, being so weak that I had to be carried in and out of the showers, heart pounding so fast and hard I swear the each beat physically shakes my body.

It doesn't happen all the time, and I don't get it as often (nor as severe) as I did before despite me actually consuming more sugar now than then.

You would think I would stay away from sugar, knowing how I could react to it. 🙄

Gosh I honestly could NOT remember how to find the thread yesterday!!! TY yall for posting and bringing it back to trending topics!!

Yesterday was like the third day of hungry hungry heifer. So I threw more Protein at the hunger and tried to keep "containment". I was really starting to worry last night about it, if this was a new phase or if my carbs were giving me bg issues and insulin probs.

But I think I was just in a protein deficit. I've read a recent study on obesity theory that talks about hunger increases when protein is kept too low over a long period of time? And that once you eat and eat and eat until your protein "reserves" (kinda sorta) are refilled, your hunger hormones will be psycho killers.

Interestingly, after eating so much protein over the past 3 days, I woke up prepared to fight the urge to eat and low and behold...I wasn't hungry until around 12:30pm. I had my same lattes to get my extra protein in, but didn't feel inclined to eat breakfast. I had a huge lunch and now feel totally satisfied with an abscence of food cues or cravings. So maybe there is something to that theory? It will be interesting to see how the rest of the day shakes out from here.

Planning a salad with shrimp tonight @ms.sss (oh yes, I'm talking about you Missy! The salad queen!)

@Tracyringo wooohooooo! And BAM! Just like that baybbbbbby! You are back in your window! It feels ridiculously good, doesn't it? :D Congrats!! Your menus have looked so yummy and gorgeous!

@ms.sss I seriously heart you! Love your menus. Love that you are fearless about trying different things and love that you're able to eat late and not gain! I've been having some nightly snacking going down...it's mostly corralled, but it gives me hope that I can have my cake Peanut Butter and cheese and eat it too! ;) hehe.

Ok, so here goes:

Thursday 11.07 - Maintenance : 5'4" / 57y F/ 19.5mo PO RNY / 130.6 lbs

B-Protein lattes (4oz PP)

L-Green Soup (ate it in 2 portions)

AS-1/2c 2% Daisy Cottage Cheese + pepper (YUM!) + 1 frigo lite cheese stick

D-atlantic salmon mustard coated + broccoli in garlic + avo/tom

BS-Longhorn cheddar + peanut butter

Daily Totals: 1006 cals; 97g protein; 53g fat; 36g carbs; 9g fiber; 27g net carbs (Oh and I didn't walk yesterday. I was so exhausted and just felt flat and empty without reserves. So I took a day off. But this morning I woke up, peppy, full of energy, jazzed for the day and ran = rawlked for 55 minutes straight.)

My goodness that's alot of food for 1000-ish cals. Have you considered doing a bariatric meal prep side business? You could probably make a killing.

Friday 11.08 - Maintenance : 5'4" / 57y F/ 19.5mo PO RNY / 130.4 lbs

B-Protein lattes (4oz PP)

L-Sardines in Water (drained) + yellow mustard + cucumbers with ACV & Tajin spice + baby carrots

AS-wasn't hungry

D-italian sausage + marinara + parm + 2 glasses cabernet sauvignon + 1/2 small dinner salad + blue cheese dressing + grilled shrimp (sorry forgot to take a pic)

BS-cottage cheese + pln grk yogurt + bananas & cream PP + frozen blueberries + walnuts + hemp hearts + chia seeds

image.thumb.png.012bcf5d9aac3ef06ade43c1282424ec.png

Daily Totals: 1195 cals; 73g protein; 51g fat; 53g carbs; 10g fiber; 41g net carbs

My hunger stayed in check yesterday. Yay! Dinner was date night and extended, so we started with sharing Italian sausage in marinara and having a glass of wine. Then later we had dinner and a second glass of wine. I'm likely overestimating dinner--I found a hair in it about 1/3 of the way in and that was it for me. But I later got hungry, so went for my flavah fave...

Today is a swamped day! Y'all have a good one!! @ms.sss Ha! We're posting at the same time! Will bbiaf after I've read your posts!!! :D

I am running on about 4 hours of sleep at the moment as despite coming home late, I woke up at 7am. I am way toooo tired and run down to go for a run right now, so I'm sitting on the couch in front of tv with my laptop instead. I'm likely going to stay in this postion for a while...LOL. Unless I fall asleep *crosses fingers*

I was channeling you :) But, then I forgot to snap a pic. But OMG...the hair. *sic* 😬🤢🤮 Normally, I'd just put that restaurant on my list and never return. But, it's our favorite neighborhood place and we love the patrons and everyone who works there an owns the place. The owner felt so bad. I didn't want him to take it off my bill, but he comp'd the entire meal. I felt awful for him.

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

    • Clueless_girl

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?
      1. NickelChip

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
