Daily Menus for Maintenance

Recommended Posts

Hi y'all. Sorry to be MIA. Serious work schedule. :(

Ok, so here's yesterday. Don't have any numbers though. Trying to move a storage unit, so didn't get to eat much yesterday, then was too pooped and fell asleep before I could eat more.

Saturday, Maintenance 5'4" / 20.5mo PO RNY / 131.0 lbs

B-4oz Premier Prot + decaff coffees

L-none

D-1/3c fried cheese curds with jalapeno cilantro dressing

2 chicken wings nekkid fried + garlic parmesan sauce

3 sticks celery + 4 baby carrots + blue cheese dressing

1 tequila shot with lime wedge no salt

1 miller lite with lime wedge

Here's how the day shook out. Everything beyond the PP is an estimate of size/weight. I'm sure I probably had more cals/macros. I forgot to add the lime wedges. LOL. Sue me.

Yesterday, Sun, Nov. 3
Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 113.9 lbs

...OK. I said it before and I'll say it again: Carbs (esp. sugar) totally take away the skeletor look from my face, and give me fake abs. They also give me bloaty feelings and cramps and nausea , so our relationship can't last. Will have to settle for flings once in a while.

I went to town with a Costco-sized container of candied mixed nuts yesterday (which made up over 1500 cals of my intake). I wonder if its because of my quitting-smoking attempt, or my time of the month. Either way, I feel pretty ick this morning, and gave Mr. the container to bring to work.

Oh, and I ate a Breakfast yesterday for like the fist time in forever. Mind you it wasn't traditional breakfast food, but it was traditional breakfast TIME. lol.

7:30am - salad greens + olive oil + carrots + Candied Mixed Nuts + sunflower seeds

2:00pm - salad greens + olive oil + carrots + cucumber + red bell pepper + Parmesan cheese + Candied Mixed Nuts + 3 squares dark chocolate

5:30pm - salad greens + olive oil + cheddar cheese + blueberries + 1 cup Chili Verde #yum

7:00pm - Candied Mixed Nuts + 2 squares dark chocolate + 1/3 cup raspberry lime sorbet

9:00pm - Candied Mixed Nuts

11:00pm - Candied Mixed Nuts

Totals: 2859 cals - 127g Protein - 120g NET carbs - 208g fat

Yeah, it's the quitting smoking thing. Nuts are deadly unless as you said somewhere else, you're actively trying to gain. They are so easy to over consume. Especially the candied kinds or the pre-made cocoa nuts (have sugar mixed with the cocoa). You are better off eating raw nuts with dark chocolate and real raspberries just until you get the monkey off your back. ((hugs))

Yeah. I know you are right.

Sooooooo easy just to keep snacking endlessly on that stuff.

Thanks to the nuts I'm all bloaty and icky and CRANKY. (Actually I could probably blame the lack of nicotine too. And my period. Oh and the fact that I'm choosing to go alcohol-free for a while).

It's a new day today, I've had my coffee and a run (hey! I didn't run yesterday either!!! another reason for the crank probably...) will make a concentrated effort to be cool today.

P.S. @FluffyChix: also wanted to give you a thanks for inspiring a quit-smoking tip you mentioned in another thread (it was probably the maintenance thread...) The other day I sat outside with my coffee SANS cigarette and did some deep breathing. While admittedly not as satisfying (yet), it was close. ❤️

WOW!!! Soooo many things all at once! I would be a huge crank, too!!!! Don't forget to hug yourself and give yourself huge proppahs for being hellah strong! You are doing this girl!!! Running and deep breathing will become your best friends!!! When craving bad, deep breathe. If that doesn't work, get moving outside in very brisk fresh air. Run fast, fast fast!!!! :)

Drink lots o Water today. Will help your brain come off of everything. Part of your bloat is period. That's also part of your cravings I bet?!! Also without the alcohol, the body wants sugar/carbs - hence the candied nuts as well. ((hugs)) Hang in there. You're a rockstar!!

Ok, yesterday was a feast day for me. So weird. After being hung up in the 135-140lbs range for so long, my body is deciding on a new set point and moving down to 130ish area "semi-permanently".

My week in maintenance looks like this: M-F 750-800 ish cals per day and not eating until lunch--so roughly either a 16:8 or an 18:6 TRE. I "ralk" in the mornings for 30minutes to an hour every day--at least 3X per week, I do a solid 60minutes at one go.

On the weekends I allow myself whatever sounds good within reason. I still try to maintain some semblance of sanity. But if I want a bite of Mr. F's grits, or a bite of a friend's mashed potatoes and avocado/rice casserole, then ok...So weekends are usually in the area of 1200-1400cals.

Today I'm back to being my goal weight: 130.2lbs. That's pretty significant cuz after a weekend of food frills (bites add up) and some wine, I'm not bloated and up in weight. That means I can expect to be down a couple of pounds by Friday.

Sunday Menu Nov. 3, Maintenance, 5'4" F, 20.5mo PO RNY / 130.2lbs

B-4oz Premier Prot + decaff coffees

L-1/2 grilled chicken salad (tomatoes, romaine, rbp, ro, cabbage, yellow cheese, avocado, chicken, blue cheese dressing)

AS-2 glasses cabernet + celery/carrots/ranch + grilled chicken breast l/o

D-1/3 almond crusted catfish + 1/2 dinner salad w/blue cheese dressing + 1 bite mashed potatoes + 1 bite rice/avocado/cheese casserole + 3 bites yeast roll with butter

BS-1 slice Longhorn cheese smeared with a teaspoon of creamy Peanut Butter.< /span>

Here's how the day shook out. Everything beyond the PP is an estimate of size/weight. I tried to be overly generous with logging my "bites" in order to try to get closer to real consumed cals/macros.

1335 Cals; 69g Protein; 66g Fat; 68g Carbs; 11g Fiber; 57g Net Carbs

image.thumb.png.36b5d08a6bdffbfe866f3cc020e3eae6.png

Today it's back with my nose to the grindstone. Healthy habits. No Crap Mondays.

Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 114.4 lbs

...am such a rebel. I put my vinaigrette back on my salads out of cranky defiance of all things that suck. Day 5 smoke-free and counting...and I KNOW that it is not related at all, AND that there are a gazillion reasons for this, BUT my inner crank is annoyingly pointing out that since I quit smoking again, my weight has steadily increased by fractions of lbs daily (a whole 1.5 lbs since, the HORROR). So its all like "See?!?!?! you need to go buy a pack and stop this explosive weight gain ASAP!!".

Shut the eFF up, Crank.

10:30am - coffee with Stevia

12:00pm - salad greens + vinaigrette (❤️) + carrots + 1/2 avocado + 1oz salted Herring

4:00pm - salad greens + vinaigrette (❤️) + cucumber + 1oz salted Herring + 1.5 oz turkey Jerky + 1 fl oz pumpkin seeds

6:00pm - 2 tbsp crunchy almond butter

7:00pm - salad greens + vinaigrette (❤️) + 1 tbsp corn kernels + 2 tbsp green peas + 1oz Parmesan cheese + 1/2 avocado + 1/2 slice bacon + 1 can smoked oysters w/ seafood sauce + 1 oz grilled octopus

9:00pm - 1 fl oz almonds + 2 squares dark chocolate + 1/4 cup blueberries

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?
      1. NickelChip

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
