Hi All,

Looking for some help. I’m on my second week of pre-op diet and I’m 4 days in of just Protein Shakes and Water only. Here’s my problem, since about last night around bedtime, I keep having recurrent palpitations. I’m using Baritastic and for the past 4 days I’ve averaged around 700 calories, and about 18 carbs a day. I’m more than hitting the 60 grams of Protein with the 5 shakes. I researched a bit and it appears that irregular heart rhythm can occur with low calorie/low carb diets.
Has anyone else experienced this? What helped? And how many carbs did/do are you supposed to have a day?

Thanks!

It is possible your electrolytes are already at an imbalance. Add some sort of electrolyte to your Water and see if it helps. If not, call you doctor!

Thank you! Today I set a goal of getting at least 30 grams of carbs and it seems to have helped a little. I’ll grab a Gatorade zero on the way to work tomorrow.

i ended up in hospital the other day with a crazy high heart rate and dehydration one week into pre-op ... checking with your dr and adding the electrolytes is a good idea to see if that helps you

Make sure your Protein Shakes don't have aspartame. I switched to aspartame free and the palptations stopped......

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
