Foamy/Frothy Tummy

Recommended Posts

Oh man,

I had GERD and was on omeprazole before my VSG a month ago. They told me to STOP taking it and to take Pepcid AC and simethicone instead. Ever since, when I wake up in the morning; I feel somewhat nauseous -- and like I have a "foamy or frothy" stomach. I also cannot tolerate coffee (too acid) in the AM or really eat anything into this goes away -- something that seems to take a couple hours.

Anyone else have foamy belly and what tips have you found to cope with it?

Yes. You might be having GERD. But it may also be "normal" for you for this stage. You've just had surgery. And your tum is very sensitive. Sometimes at night our tummies get clocked (gooped) up with mucus from drainage during the night. And it get's "stuck". Many have food aversion or foamies till that mucus clears. My RD told me if that happens to drink cups of warm Fluid until it clears out. Try some Decaf herbal tea or even just warm Water since coffee is still too acidic for you. And see if that helps. If it doesn't, then that's a surgeon's phone call.

Many to this day only drink coffee with a Protein Shake in the mornings.

Tea is a really good idea. That sounds soothing.

Earl Grey, English Breakfast Tea, Turmeric Tea, herb teas (all decaff) are great and so soothing!

I only get "the foamies" if I eat something my stomach rejects. Now 9 months post-op, my body still rejects doughy food like bread, rolls, soft tortillas, and pizza.

I had bad GERD before my surgery- in fact finding my hiatal hernia when they did an esophagus dilation is how I got started on this journey. I had surgery 3 weeks ago today, and I was on the phone with my nurse over probable reflux issues. Before surgery I was taking omeprazole before surgery, after they switched me to pepcid. Well, now I am back on carafate and they told me to go back to a liquid diet for a few days to try to reset. Maybe something like that would work for you? You are only a week or so further out than me.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
