Y-Connection issue with Rapid Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

So, I had some abdominal pain on Friday along with feeling a bit sick, and my surgical team said that if it didn't go away, they wanted me to come in for a CT scan of the area to check on the Y-connection. Luckily, the pain went away mostly, and it seemed to be gas, but the rest of the symptoms just seem like cold or flu-like ones instead. Has anyone ever heard of the y-connection being messed up due to rapid weight loss within the first six months? I've lost over 85 lbs. since surgery.

Nope. Can you ask for expansion of that?

That's not the point. The point is that he was experiencing pain at his anastamosis site and the doc told him that if it wasn't better, that he wanted to get a CT scan of the Y-connection which is at the roux limb. My guess is that he was wanting to check that he didn't have any candy cane stuff or bowel blockage going on.

Well, the pain hasn't gone away completely, so I do have a CT scan tomorrow for this. What sort of treatment is done for each of those options?

So it's a pretty rare finding. But if either of those things are happening, then you would end up in surgery to correct them.

But most likely, you are either having gas, or maybe your full of poop. :D (I know I am...continually! ;) ) Glad you're having it done. I think if it were either of the others in a serious situation the pain would be intolerable and you would most likely be "off your feed." Possibly throwing up.

If you are still continually having pain, it could be a number of things. I was 4 months out when I started having pain there. I was so tired, and felt Ill all over. Severe pains, finally went in. I was having a bowel rupture, and had to have emergency surgery. The rupture was at the site where the surgical connection site was during my bypass. I pray that isn’t it, but the CT scan can definitely give the doctors a better look at what is going on.  My case is very rare.

I had quite a few also while feeling ill. But with lots of pain. Hopefully you are just backed up, and it is clearing up.

I had a hernia there. Didn't have pain from it... they happened to find it 2 months post-op when they went to take out my gallbladder.

Well, good news is that the CAT Scan turned up nothing bad. Bad news is that I was prescribed two doses of milk of magnesia or Miralax tonight.

YAY!!! Absolute BEST outcome! :) See? I told you, you're just full of poop! :D 2 MAXIMUM doses of 60ml each? Make sure to hydrate both before and after!!

The worst is when you have Constipation and then gas trapped in between. Sounds like maybe that's what you have been having? It can definitely make you feel fluey. Gas can push on organs, so can poop. It can give you headaches and just make you feel dreadful. My mum used to be a nurse and would tell me about how old people would lose their minds when they were constipated - it affected them that much. I'm so glad you haven't got anything super serious though!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
