Arthritis

Recommended Posts

You will not be able to have any form of NSAIDs after surgery. I have terrible arthritis but had to stop taking meds due to gastritis. I toke mine for years and boy did I hurt after stopping!

I hope that's my case, my surgeon told me not to take any more arthritis meds. I haven't since May.

If afterwards still in pain are we allowed to take any meds?

Following this topic bc it's of interest to me.

I'm wanting to know about beyond Aleve and other NSAIDS. I'm curious about the "big guns" biologic medications for like Rheumatoid Arthritis which I have. Remicade IV is my drip - but haven't been able to get my infusion for months due to surgeries (2 including the GB RNY) which has left me reeling in inflammatory pain off and on.... I'm hopeful though, bc although RA is autoimmune, I know the extra fat doesn't help!

I continued with cortisone shots for the first few months after surgery, but then stopped. I just didn't hurt much anymore with all that weight gone (my arthritis is in my knees and right hip)

Likewise for my Lower Limbs- but No One Updated my other joints - Right Rotator cuff repaired- Left one on List right after my Ganglion Cyst removal on this coming Tuesday- it Hurts and Worse its location is making my Left Thumb go Numb- this is the " GOOD" thumb- the Right one post- joint removal and rebuild, will remain 85% efficient. I MAY NEVER PINCH PEOPLE AGAIN - not that I go out of my way to do it now- but Fine Motor Skills are terrible to lose!

I have had both my thumbs rebuilt. Mine was a tendon transfer where they remove the thumb joint and replace it with a tendon in the forearm. I have a little trouble with jars but otherwise not bad. Therapy helped a lot!

Not nsaids for sure. In any form per my surgeon. But talk to your doctor about your concerns. It's amazing what losing the weight does to inflammatory diseases and pain levels.

Those who have arthrites, do you take any meds after surgery?

Sent from my LM-Q710(FGN) using BariatricPal mobile app

I take turmeric and it truly works! I have horrible arthritis in my hands and knees. Do yourself a favor and try it. Key is that it must also contain bioperine (black pepper) in order to absorb it.

I have been using it for years now.

I was in so much pain I couldn't stand but he gave me cortisone shots in both knees. NSAIDS that are the lowest as far as hurting the lining of your stomach. I guess if I am still hurting after I have surgery I will then have to have knees operated on. If insurance approved going do some more weekly silicone shots.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
