I has my VSG surgery on August 26 so i am 8 days post op now.

Im feeling relatively good, i have some days better than others. Today I am officially able to start my puree diet, but I am nervous. I have been constipated since the day before surgery.....yesterday I resorted to a full dose of milk of magnesia and consequently was in the bathroom with watery stool at least 8 times, and while I feel some relief, I am still plugged [emoji29][emoji27] I am hesitant to dose again today after yesterday's doodoo debauchery ..... is this common or normal? Any suggestions?

I also feel LOW energy and weak quite easily...its annoying.... I start a new job in the next 2 weeks..... just want to be right and ready to go.

My incisions are starting to itch a little..... i am so happy with this decision.....i cant wait to have energy again!

Any suggestions for usually well tolerated purees to start on?

Congratulations!! I'm 15 days post OP and I assure you, you will start to feel more energy as you eat more. I also had to resort to MOM 1 week post OP and it took a couple of days for all poop to be out and I have been regular after that (I've never had problems with constipation). I was slightly dehydrated after the MOM event but I just made sure I rehydrate A LOT (never been a Water drinker pre op.....actually loathe to drink it) via HINT Water and felt much better a few days afterwards.

My program went straight to food by a week post OP and eating soft food (refried Beans, cottage cheese, softly cooked fish and chicken) gave me more energy and I've been at 500 cals or almost 600 cals on a good day (don't get there often) and this helps with energy. You should be feeling better in 2 weeks in time for the new job. Get the Proteins and water in and never mind anything else for now. Get a few walks in if you are up to it, slowly build up. It helps with the Constipation as well!!!!

Cheers to us getting in groove with this new life!![emoji112][emoji112]🧡[emoji169]

Currently experiencing a three week stall...but, I am staying on top of my Fluid and Protein. I am walking as much as I can. Hoping to see the scale move a little bit this week. I'm feeling more normal than I have in the past month. Today marks the 1 month mark since I started my preop diet. WOW how time flies!

Definitely excited to go home and have my soft meal of some salmon and mashed sweet potato with carrots!

Sleeved on 8/29, today is my 1st day back at work. I am doing ok with fluids and Protein and I have no pain, just discomfort. What is bothering me though is that I am lightheaded and dizzy. I am not sure if it is because of the sleeve or my temper mental heart. ( I was hospitalized 2 days after surgery for aFib with RVR) The not knowing what is the cause of the dizzyness is what makes it worse...

Halfsnack- so glad you are doing well!! The guilds and Protein are super important- but once you are out and about more ie- work, you may need to pay attention to your calories too- we are SUPER low on calories right now, but our bodies still need them to get us through the day. Tracking in an app will help you see where you are at 🙂
I went to the grocery store about the same time out as you are and had to sit down with a full sugar juice to keep from passing out because I was not getting enough calories.

Thanks for the response! That totally makes sense. I had a couple sips of apple juice and lunch and I feel like a different woman! 😁

I went to my one month post op appointment earlier this week. I was terrified that I was not losing weight fast enough. Well, apparently, I was pretty wrong! I was shown the graph for the first time. There was a line for an estimated 70% of excess weight (the average that this surgeon expects from his patients), another line for 100% excess weight. and then there was a line for me...aiming for greater than 100% of excess weight.

While I was very surprised that I was well ahead of the curve, the prospect of losing *that* much weight is pretty terrifying to me.

Outside of that my energy is great, I have been cleared to exercise, have solid foods as tolerated, and pretty much go back to my every day life, minus binge eating, carbs and sugars. I am so thankful that I had this done well in advance of the Holidays! I have so much time to practice self control, to train my mind into making better decisions.

I hope everyone else is doing just as fantastically as we move into 1 month post op and beyond!

RNY was August 8 and today makes 6 weeks post op. I’ve lost 21 pounds since my surgery date. I started feeling great last week and went back to work working 12 hour days.

Gastric Sleeve 12th August, Dilation OGD 17th August, Emergency Bypass 20th August.

5 foot 10"

HW 115 kg (253 lbs)

SW 112 kg (246 lbs)

CW 96kg (211 lbs)

So far lost 19kg (41.8 lbs)

So after 3 procedures and just over 2 weeks in hospital, I am still getting tired easily. But I go for a gentle walk every other day (around 5km a week = 3miles). I am starting to be able to do more around the house and my wounds all look good, especially considering they were re-opened! Bending is still uncomfortable on my tummy but much easier than before the op.

What I do love is my clothes hanging off me LOL and I can get up the stairs without huffing and puffing OR having to use the handrail to help pull myself up :D :D :D Our stairs are very steep so it's a pretty big non-scale victory (NSV) for me :D

Bit miffed that I have worked out I am definitely lactose intolerant now and in a big way. But had some great tips from some of these forums veterans.

I am still on pureed food, not sure when I get to real food, but I'm not in a rush, pureed is better than liquids so I am happy to wait if I have to.

Kudos to those of you that have gone back to work, I wouldn't have been able to yet if I did work!

Everyone seems to be doing a great job :D

You are only 3 weeks out and you are still recovering and healing internally. Operations take a lot out of the body, so just try and take it easy. I too went to the shop nearby 3 weeks out and also nearly passed out, it is just too much so early on and our bodies sure let us know. Also with your heart being naughty rhythm wise might be worth giving your Dr a call just to get some reassurance :)

I had gastric bypass on 8/28 and have lost 23.2 lbs since.

My highest weight was 275 when I went for my consult but I had a very active job over the summer so I lost some weight before the surgery.

HW: 275
Surgery day: 266
Current: 242.3

I've been back at work since a week after surgery, with permission, since I'm just on orientation right now. Overall I feel fantastic. A week after surgery I felt completely normal, like I didn't have surgery at all. I was shocked at how quickly I bounced back. My only complaint is ridiculous hip pain at night that wakes me up. My physical therapist said that people who have bariatric surgery are at risk for hip and core problems because the body can't adjust as quickly as the weight comes off. I'm seriously considering going once a week to get this under control, I'll see what my surgeon says when I see him next week.

I have been using my old pregnancy triangle pillow to support me while I sleep. If I am flat on my back I place it under my legs right up against my butt. If I sleep on my side I place it between my thighs. If I half sleep on my stomach I lay it beside me and place it under my knee that is out to my side. If that all makes sense. That keeps my hips more supported while I sleep as the weight falls off and they get used to holding a different position. It will take time for the muscles to retrain so the pillow has taken all the pain away from being uncomfortable sleeping.

When I get in and out of bed or in and out of the car. I never roll or try to step out with my knees apart so this keeps my hips and pelvis supported.

Hope you get a bit of relief soon.

Hi August friends!

I was sleeved 8/5 and have been doing so much better! Been getting down liquids with no problems and eating good too. As of today I've lost 45 lbs. The only thing is, I've hit an almost 3 week stall. I cant seem to lose weight no matter what I do. How many calories is everyone eating? I track all my meals and at first I was eating around 900 - 1000 calories a day with 80 -90 grams of Protein but since i hit a stall I cut my intake to about 600 calories a day. I've been eating very clean, sticking to tuna, chicken breast, skim milk, and haven't cheated or had anything I'm not suppose to. Even with the decrease in calories I'm still not losing weight. I know this is part of the journey and my body is probably in shock mode because i lost so much weight so fast but its just frustrating.

Lol anyways, I hope everyone is doing great, especially mentally. Its crazy how much this surgery changes things. I use to think about food all the time and feel hungry 24/7 and now it doesn't consume my life. Its just nutrition I need to live. My self care has definitely improved because of this!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
