Hi, i had my surgery 4 days ago. Doing everything i was told and feeling good. Tired but thats to be expected. I went on the scale and have not lost anything. When does the weight loss start? I felt very disappointed.

Okay, I think you got your subject and body text reversed, but regarding your question, you tend to put on a little weight in the hospital due to what they pump into you for the surgery. Some people don't, but a lot do. It may take another day or two before the scale starts showing the real loss.

Some people don't advise people to use a scale for a week.

Hi!

By 1 month post op you will begin to see a real substantial difference in your weight loss (try not focusing on the day to day if it disappoints you)

Congratulations on a safe surgery 💜

I would advise you to stay off the scale during your first several weeks after surgery. Your focus should be on fluids and Protein, fluids and protein. Seeing the scale not meeting your expectations - whether its a natural result of just having surgery or stalls that are just a normal part of the weight loss process - only serves to stress you out. You don't need stress, so just focus on the fluids and protein and know that the weight loss will happen.

they pumped you full of IV fluids when you were in the hospital, and those fluids contain a lot of sodium to boot (which makes some people retain water). I've heard of people gaining 10+ lbs on those. I stayed off the scale for the first week or ten days just so that extra Fluid would work its way out of my system so I wouldn't have a heart attack when I stepped on the scale.

I went down 9lbs for my 2 week visit after surgery and only 4lbs for weeks 3 and 4. They told me that a stall after is normal and that it will pick back up again. Which it is finally moving down again. You are too soon after surgery as others have said but it will come off. Just be patient.

I didn't even get off the scale until my one week post op appt and I had lost 13 lbs. I was told the fluids they pump you with can make you gain right after surgery.

Right now, I think you need to focus on getting well and getting through the next few weeks and not focus so much on the weight loss because it is going to fluctuate. I remember my doctor telling me not to worry about losing weight until after my first pre-op appointment and not to expect more than 10lbs over the first few weeks. Focus on getting your body well, then move on to the next step. I hope this helps.

My surgery was August 12.

On August 14, the day after I was discharged, I was up 1lb, which was to be expected, since I was still eliminating the IV fluids.

Two days later, on August 17, 5 days after surgery, I stepped on the scale and I was shocked I had lost 19lbs.

Now, August 20, 8 days after surgery, I'm down 1 more (-20lbs).

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
