Do you take calcium supplements if you are getting 4-5 servings of dairy in your diet?

Recommended Posts

I rarely take Calcium supplements since I’m getting so much dairy. I haven’t had lambs done yet ( months post RNY).

Yes, I take two calcium citrate soft chews every day. I had labs last week and they're fine, but it might be because I'm taking supplements that they're fine. I'm just following doctor's orders

TAKE YOUR CALCIUM! You need the extra even though you are getting plenty of dairy in your diet. And labs wont show a Calcium defect until its TOO LATE.

People tend to think losing their teeth and getting dentures are the worst that could happen but the bones in your feet can literally start crumbling. And by then there is nothing that can be done.

TAKE YOUR CALCIUM!

I eat primarily dairy and YES TAKE YOUR Calcium. You have malabsorption now and are highly likely not getting enough no matter how much you are eating, which is why you are supposed to take those supplements FOR LIFE. I literally eat almost nothing BUT dairy and still take them twice per day.

Another scary one is a case study where a guys' spine basically crumbled. Only 2 years after having his surgery.

Yikes!! So we can only absorb 500mg at a time so do you take the Calcium pills or chews separate from Protein Shakes or yogurt?

I take my multi Vitamin with my Breakfast then set the alarm on my phone for three two hour increments after that. I don't worry about the Calcium in my foods because my body will just eliminate the excess.

I take my Calcium supplement in the morning around the same time as I am eating breakfast, which is usually a yogurt or a soy Protein Shake. I take my evening supplements right after dinner. How much your body absorbs is different for everyone. Like the other poster said, you will just expel whatever your body doesn't need so taking it with food is fine.

I was taking Vitamin D3,5000iu's, long before seeing Bariatrics, I've yet to go on the 2-week liver cleanse diet prior to surgery, and am still doing the 30% weight loss on my own, I have lost 20%, already. My Bari- Dr. said to wait for the call to start the liver cleanse diet, as they are sending into insurance for authorization. I have been taking calcium citrate 250 mg. with vitamin D3, each chew, for a total of 1500 mg. The nutritionist's instructions are to take 1200-1500 mg. daily, so that means 2 chews 3 x daily to get 1500, as 2 of them only comes up to 500 mg. I was told to take sublingual B12, but I don't remember if I was supposed to take under the tongue liquids or tablets, and wasn't told how much mg's so I am following the bottle instruction. I stopped my vitamin D3,5000ui, I was taking from the PCP Dr. The total D3 in the chews that many times a day comes up to about 750, and 5,750 iu' seems like an awful lot, to take Then there's the Multivitamin, I wasn't told I had to get chewable, until I told the Bari Dr. I bought complete Multivitamins with Iron, but they are capsules,he said get Flinstones chewable complete, so I did, (gummies) only to get them home and find IRON nowhere on the bottle. I went back to the store and they had Flinstones complete with IRON in chewable tablet form. It really is irritating when they say take to two calcium chews, and leave out how many mg's.you have to take 1200-1500 a day according to nutritionist yet two chews at 500 mg's comes up to 1000 mg's. I think it would be very beneficial If they'd inform you how many mg's of this and that you're supposed to have and not just a quantity, and a name, of how many pills and chews since they have different set amounts, in iu's, and mg's, and milliliters. I'm not even sure if I should be taking them right now, prior to surgery or liver cleanse but figure it couldn't hurt. Yes, I have inquired and the nutritionist pretty much said not make a big deal out of it, yet throughout my pamphlet, the Dr. gave me said get used to taking it. So any advice? should I stop taking all this and wait till I get the call, and instructions, or keep doing what I'm doing??

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
