💜AUGUST 2019 CHALLENGE💜

One of them has to be joining Bariatric Pal. You see, I am a Facebook Drop- out, the wrong people liked or friended me, the Good Ones never did. So I felt scared and scarred, but I looked and what I saw I liked and I'm still here, posting almost 2 years later . That's a Good Spontaneous, my bad one was Binging on ALL the food that couldn't Outrun ME. But I have turned THAT around and expect to END a SUCCESS!

Good Morning Team!
B-Side Question: What is the most spontaneous thing you've ever done?
Day 24.

Post op day 8.

I have not tried to engage in much strength training given being recently post OP. I try to get at least 10K steps a day walking around my home and neighborhood. It has not been hard to do.

Spend time with family: We are currently having a weekend staycation at a local resort and it has been great. I have been able to hang with them while they eat all types of food and not felt awkward or particularly yearned to eat what they are eating. I brought my own liquid diet with me. My hunger monster has been quite silent and this for me is mind blowing. I've been able to withstand the allure of my all time favorites. I was very pleased to spend time with family without any angst over food!!
Kids also chose to stay with hubby and I rather than go to kids club (a first).
Anyway, it's been a fun day.

B sided question: Most spontaneous thing I've ever done was take 10 days off in the middle of med school ( felt like a month off studies) to go backpacking around Europe with non med school friends that were going in the middle of my school year!!! Horrible for studies but best thing I've ever done! 19 countries in 10 days.

Day 25. Well, I had a good time with my cousin and her son yesterday and the puppy did very well with riding the bus and the ferry and meeting lots of people. Somehow, I pulled off over 10,000 steps despite the muscle/sciatica issue. I realized last night that the cramping felt like Charlie horses. Sometimes in my butt and sometimes in my inner thigh and...ouch! Still, there seems to be improvement. I'm out of sync with the fitness challenge. I'm dressed to go to the gym and I thought I'd see how doing cardio feels and maybe do some weights for my upper body. I've really been enjoying that I can feel my muscle definition even if it's not visible. But, if it's too uncomfortable, I'll call it quits. I suppose part of my push is that the scale seems stuck this week and it seems a slower month over all so far. I did do a little bit of yoga/stretch earlier and may do some more later. Mostly, enjoying a relaxed, no agenda, Sunday. Oh and no new restaurant/café today...I'll leave that for next week when I go visit my brother in Colorado...I'm sure to go someplace I've never been somewhere in my travels then.

Day 24/25.

Okay so if picking my mom up so I could give her her flu shot, then driving her home counts, then I spent time with family.

I’ve gone to 2 Pilates classes each day this weekend and my bod is definitely feeling it.
In a good way though, not in an injury sort of way.

No plans to go to any restaurants or cafes as I’m keeping a laser focus on my program for now.

Grocery store run after Pilates this morning.
Meals are planned for the next 3 days and so is my exercise.
As soon as I put up the latest load of laundry, I’ll be organizing my wardrobe for the week after checking the weather and fingers crossed all goes smoothly because of my prep.

Side question:

As one of the most un-spontaneous people on the planet, this is a toughie.

Back in college (30 years ago) I once ditched a work shift so I could drive to Louisiana (8hr drive) so my roommate could meet up with a guy she had met who attended another pharmacy school.

The weekend actually was a real dud and I regretted nearly every moment of it.
Note to self: spontanaity really isn’t for me. It makes me anxious to not have days pre-planned out.

Day 25

Gentle stretches to loosen my muscles for about 15 mins.

Went to an amazing restaurant on the resort for Breakfast. Pre surgery, this is exactly what I lived for!! A fantastic breakfast menu to eat unrestrained! Would you believe I went in with my hint bottled Water and sat and watch my family have the best breakfast ever and I didn't order a thing but to sip sip on my Hint water! My daughter even offered to get me some smoked salmon and cottage cheese on the buffet table but I told her I was fine. Once again, this silent gremlin called Grehlin is truly the shocker of this surgery!!!! I know it doesn't last forever but I plan to make the best of it while it lasts!!!

26. I made it to the gym yesterday and found that some of the tightness loosened up. I self-massaged and stretched in between sets and that seemed to help a lot. I'm still sore but much better than before. So, I went to the gym this morning and did my usual. I guess I'll have to save the rest day for another time. I will try to remember to choose a movie to watch tonight...Happy Monday folks.

I'm not sure what my most spontaneous thing is...there have been a few for sure. I suppose one of my favorite's was deciding to go on a road trip with my best friend without any particular destination. We went from PA to DC to Florida (but were supposed to stop in Savannah) and then up to Canada and ended in Massachusetts because of car problems. We were on our way to NH. I was about 21 at the time.

Does your gym have a foam roller? I had a trainer (who happened to also be a chiropractor) show me how to properly use one and it really helped me.

@Cheeseburgh, No, I go to Planet Fitness...they have a lot but not a foam roller. I had a massage therapist suggest a tennis ball once for when I felt super tight.

Yes! It’s amazing for sure.

I’m basically went into WLS primarily bc I desperately needed the metabolic reset.
I knew my head was in the game. Hell, my head has been in the game for a very long time, but my poor body just would not do what I needed it to do.

I would find myself constantly watching a clock and wondering how in the world I was gonna make it to the next appropriate eating time bc my body was CONSTANTLY sending out “I’m starving, feed me now!” Hormones.

I bet my insulin resistance was off the charts because I could eat 2000k calories and want to punch someone in the face if they caused my eating to be delayed. I spent most of my awake time “hangry”. The suckiest part is I would eat low sugar, high Protein and it wouldn’t make any difference. I didn’t want the food, my body was demanding it.

Since surgery, it’s been a 180. Sweets never appealed to me anyway and I’m perfectly happy sitting down with 3 ounces of steak and a 1/2 cup salad.
I meticulously log my food, but it’s because if I don’t, I will accidentally eat not enough.
There are still many days where I struggle to get in enough. I literally just don’t desire it

Day 26.

Watch a movie: Didn't even watch a show! First day back at work. It went well but struggled to find the right time to eat at work. Being in that environment triggered some head hunger as the physician's lounge is always loaded with food and also had a routine of eating with colleagues. I resisted that head hunger and stayed in my office. So by the time I got home, it was soccer runs etc and by end of the day, no movies to be watched!

Rest day: ...Not! Still got 10K steps in.

Movies and shows are generally not part of the agenda. Spent time with hubs walking my 5k route and matched the distance in a hill section of the city Sunday. Lost a s’mt ton of strength and endurance since June and am fully freaked out. Managed 30 minutes elliptical and 50 sit ups last night while I was not watching show. - again not pleased.
No Café Sunday but picnic which ought to totally count. I brought my korean coleslaw which as ll the food I ate. Spontaneous- went to Paris to lick some wounds after a relational upset. The only time I purchased a ticket after arriving at the Airport with a carry on.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
