At 6 weeks, fiber may not be the best option for you only because you're still healing.

Better options to get things moving again: Miralax, Milk of Magnesia, Dulcolax, Smooth Move Tea. Depending on the severity of your problem, you can also try glycerin suppositories or even enemas.

Remember to be drinking enough Water. The GI tract needs water to remove the wastes from your body.

Thank you so much. I made an appointment with my doctor to see what she can do for me. Ive tried miralax, suppositories, magnesium sulfate, etc.

Yikes! Sorry. The struggle is real for many of us.

First off, I personally wouldn't add Fiber to the mix until you've broken through the blockade and the trains are running on the #2 track on their appointed schedule.

I'd personally start with MOM, follow directions and use it until you have a big ol' poop and nothin's left. Then you have to have a plan and know what your normal is, and if you are outside of normal, then you start following a new plan.

I ended up until recently with a very involved daily plan that gave me a Smooth Move every dang day after dealing with occasional irregularity with regular frustration. LOL:

250mg Colace

400mg Magnesium Citrate Caplets (not the liquid!)

12g Now! Brand Whole Psyllium Husk dissolved in 12oz of brewed decaff Lipton Apple Cinnamon Tea with vanilla stevia drops (room temp or chilled, no ice)

17g Miralax (which a surgeon who found out I did this daily was horrified about, so maybe this isn't the best idea)

Hope you find what works for you. By far, the colace and psyllium tea are the best things on earth. :D

It's the main ingredient in products like Metamucil. I had problems with Constipation after surgery and started using the costco sugar free version with a scoop of GENEPRO Protein Powder and that fixed me right up. I knew right away that I didn't want to experience that traffic jam again! :)

MOM - milk of magnesium if what our doctor has us use and we also took a stool softener (colace) daily. Really important to make sure you are drinking minimum of 64 ozs of Water daily.

Fleet enemas work best for me. It brings everything down within 10 mins.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
