We’re your ears burning, Jake? I was on,y thinking yesterday that you hadn’t posted in a while. So lovely surprise today to see you looking so very dashing in your suit. You both look gorgeous.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who becomes frustrated by bad driving. I’m the one in her car shouting at people who don’t indicate or indicate incorrectly on road-abouts. It’s not hard people. Oh & don’t get me started on slow drivers in the overtaking lane, going 20 below the speed limit & overtaking no one. Get out of my way!! Grrrr!!! Am also a bit of a get where I have to go, get what I need or do what I have to do & go home person BayougirlMrsS. Especially at shopping centres. Can’t stand them or all the zombie like people aimlessly wandering.

Popped into the city this morning & thought I’d do a side view pxt as well for a change. More shoulder pad & more black.

Bought a leather moto jacket today cause my old very soft & buttery leather jacket, which I love, is too big now. I just got away with it unzipped last year but not now.
Old coat - crying. It went with everything casual to formal.

New coat. I don’t love it as much. It’s more casual but it’s the best I could find. Didn’t want too many zips & studs. I may return it yet. Sigh!

Ok, @Arabesque, seeing your new jacket inspired me to go looking through my basement for the old jacket that I wore when I was in high school.

Found it!

You can tell its from the eighties because of the ginormous shoulder pads (its hard to see their full-sized glory in these pics, but trust me, they are huge, lol).

Also, just goes to show how sizing has changed over the last 35 or so years...this jacket is labelled size XS, which is more like a Medium compared to my current 2021 XS jackets.

If I can get this altered to remove the shoulder pads and take it in to be more fitted (and remove those utterly useless epaulettes!) , I could consider wearing it again (or give it to the Kid). As it is, its just not for either of us. I figure the cost of getting a leather jacket altered would not really be cost effective though.

Who knows, maybe football-player-esque shoulder pads will make a comeback.

Isn’t it funny the things we keep. Does the jacket have some special meaning or memory associated with it @ms.sss which made you keep it or did you just love it?

The 80s are back just not as extreme as we remember them thank goodness. I reckon with just those few adjustments you could wear it very successfully. Maybe you only need to replace the shoulder pads with smaller ones after you remove the epaulettes of course - lol. And I love that belt. If it vanishes from your wardrobe I bet the kid has it 😆.

Well the leather moto jacket went back this morning & I bought this one instead which I discovered during a random online search last night. It’s more shaped than my original one which I like but otherwise very similar. Much, much happier. The leather is softer too.

I love the texture of fabrics. I’m the one inappropriately caressing clothing in stores while making suggestive pleasurable noises. I’ve been known to touch or examine the fabrics of clothing people are wearing. Actually did it this morning though I do ask first specially these days of social distancing. One of the reasons I don’t enjoy online shopping I think.

Naw, I didn't love it so, so very much. I think I'm just a hoarder, lol. Though this jacket was a hard earned one I remember, it was one of the more expensive items of clothing that I bought with my lowly teenage part-time job earnings, so I guess there is a bit of nostalgia to it, haha.

I like the new jacket! Is it super fitted? Can't wait to see it on you!

Working with leather is a skill & a talent @BayougirlMrsS. Don’t let her go. I’ve had a few leather pants over the years that could benefitted by someone who can tailor leather. Hope you can find your leathers.

Embrace the pale @WishMeSmaller. We who are very fair need to stick together. Those compression sleeves are fabulous & very practical to protect your legs while fencing.

lunch with my girls. We’re trying to go out to somewhere nice for lunch or dinner every 4 weeks. Look I’m not wearing all black 😆😆😆. Popped on my new leather coat as it was a bit overcast & cool today - Autumn & lunch was on a rooftop. I love my jacket. So glad I returned the other one.

Had the dress in my wardrobe since just prior to COVID last year. This is it’s first outing. Amusingly, Alyson Hannibal wore the dress to a presser in February for her movie Flora & Ulysses except it was like three sizes too big on her. Think I won the ‘who wore it best’ comp. 😜

You definitely won The Who Wore it Best! 🎉😍😍 You look amazing 🤩 I love the green shoes and the new leather jacket looks gorgeous on you. 🥰

Thank you for appreciating my pale, old lady legs, @Arabesque! 😂

I just got the compression sleeves yesterday. I have been wearing the knee high stocking socks with compression for many years, but the sleeves will be so much better for running/exercise since I can wear appropriate shoes and socks with them. They feel so good on, but they are like $40 per pair...GASP 😱😱 I bought two pair to start, so more frequent washing will need happen.

@WishMeSmaller: You just reminded me how I LOVED to wear calf compressors during the period immediately after plastics. I stopped because I lost one of them in the wash. I need to order me some new ones! P.S. Did you guys finish putting up the fence (I have no idea how long it takes to put up a fence....)

@Arabesque: You DEF wore it better than the other lady (did you mean, Alyson HANNIGAN? lol) She needs a new stylist whoever she is, as that dress is waaaaaaaaaaay too big on her. New leather jacket looks great on you 😍

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?
      1. NickelChip

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
