For those eating under 1000 calories

Recommended Posts

I eat Breakfast closer to lunchtime. Usually 3oz lean deli ham with one slice of toasted ancient grain bread from Trader Joe’s. Total about 175 calories

lunch examples: Jimmy John unwich turkey no mayo extra turkey and an apple or grapes. 185 calories total

I make tacos with 96% lean ground beef, this one keeps me sane. 4 oz of meat and 2 Old El Paso crunchy taco shells is a total of 240 calories and the carbs are pretty low. I do add a bunch of lettuce, (no cheese) Tomato and peppers usually. It feels like cheating when I have this.

Another great find were the Chili lime chicken burgers from Trader Joe’s, they are 150 calories.

dinner. Grilled 4 oz chicken breast or grilled chicken Italian sausage with a grilled veggie, usually average 225 calories for dinner. Or see above tacos!

Shrimp are always a great choice too.

I never eat tacos twice a day, I make the seasoned meat and freeze it in portions. I am farther out than you and I’m not super phobic about carbs, I just keep mine to under 70 right now.

i usually have a 100 calorie snack like a mini kind bar with Decaf coffee before bed.

I hope that gives you an idea.

I'm aiming to be at 1000/day but more often than not, end up below it. Yesterday I got over 1000, but Saturday I did not, so here is what I ate that day.

Note that "Breakfast" was at 12:30pm, and "Lunch" was 5:00pm. I was at a party for that second meal, and had prepared to eat lots but it didn't happen. Ended up 688 cals that day.

@FluffyChix what app are you using to track? I love the format and I LOVE that they have HEB items!

It's just MFP (My Fitness Pal) hon. I love it cuz you can save meals, enter your own foods, enter recipes...so populating your meals becomes super quick cuz it keeps track of your recents and "frequents". I just use the free version. :) And you can put your own meals in and the macros you want to track! It also tracks other stuff like exercise (not good at remembering to go in and log it down), weight (do it daily), measurements (do it monthly). That kind of stuff!

This is just a clippit of the day cuz it was too long to post as one pic. Cuz of my powerslaw that I made and still have 3 servings to eat before it goes bad. LOL. Delish...but a kitchen sink type of recipe.

I use My Fitness Pal too, I think that is the most common tracking app.

Can I ask you all how much Protein you're getting on "regular " food? I'm not absorbing protein and need shakes to get enough protein. I can't imagine how I would ever get enough protein without the shakes!@ thanks!

Me too, plus I seldom can keep pureed meats et all down, good news, Precious has finally allowed me to keep down Greek Yogurt,CAN cottage cheese be far behind? But a minimum of 2 Protein Shakes if not 3 to keep my Protein levels close to appropriate. Nobody has checked my blood lavs, haven't had a complete since March, my l8cal hospital, even with the incidentals they've taken when I was there for other things, refuses to do a Fe(iron) level, won't do it on my request, I'm only a patient so at a low contemptible level of life. Maybe say" Please Please Please" at Tomkittens appointment on Thursday. Since I had to have an Iron INFUSION OVER 3 MONTHS AGO somebody better be checking into this! Maybe I should have asked Santa Claus for a complete Pathology lab for Christmas 2018 ! Felt sorry for the Fat Dude so cut him so slack I case he was in the midst of Weight Loss himself. Must grease his body to get down all those furnance and woodstove piping!

This is a fairly typical day for me.

I always start the workday with either quark or greek yogurt and blueberries (frozen and defrosted on the way to work - gives it a bit of texture). Plus usually a homemade latte with 8oz milk

lunch is often ricotta bake. On this day, i had leftover tofu. Some days I have parm chips and hummus

I almost always have a snack of either a Sargento nut snack pack (nuts, cheese, cranberries) or cheese. This day I had both.

dinner is usually 1-2 oz of shrimp/shrimp, ricotta bake, or tofu.

In a perfect world, I'd add veggies to those meals. BUT I still get very sick when I eat (8 months out), so I only eat the bare minimum to get my Protein. If I added veg, I'd never be able to get my protein in. And I MISS veggies!

For the past 3-4 weeks, I have been able to get my 60-70 g of protein from regular food each day. There may have been 3-4 days during that time period when I had a shake on a given day where I didn't reach my protein goal by dinnertime and downed a shake to make up for it.

8 months out, I get 70-80, but I also drink a lot of milk (I'll often drink 16 oz of Fairlife milk in a day - which is 26g of protein). But at 3 months (which it looks like is where you're at) - I was still using shakes.

Ah, yeah, I didn't look at how far out you were! Yep, like @notmyname, at 3 months, I was having a Protein Shake a day (each one had 25g of protein)

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
