Just sleeved 6-17-19!!

Well most of them it's not that it totally failed... It's after a few years they gained weight.
Everyone says that this is a tool and you still have to do the work. I'm just afraid that it won't work for me. Even the people who say that it didn't work great for them admit that they are eating food they shouldn't. But seeing the success stories is amazing.
OCC does a sleeve rescue. If after a few years you feel like your pouch is bigger, you can have it plicated to be smaller again.
Several have done this. I just have to tell myself that it's not all over. I will lose weight and if I feel like I can eat more I can get it plicated. (Of course that's more money $$$)
I am kind of confused how they are claiming that plication is a gastric sleeve rescue procedure. The long term weight loss is less.

Oh my, I feel your pain. I never knew that OCC does sleeve rescue. Gastric plication is it's own option, while in was there there was a young girl in her late teens that had come in to do the gastric plication surgery as opposed to the VSG. Do you know how much they charge for the plication surgery? Well when Dr. Ariel Ortiz told me that he does the super sleeve surgery (he invented himself) basically after he resects the stomach, he uses staples to close the incision area than he uses a row of nylon sutures to reinforce the same area. This helps reinforce the area to keep it intact longer. I am hoping this method also helps prevent long term stomach stretching out and ruining the sleeves results. Can you tell me what is the percentage of success stories as opposed to failures that you have seen on ooc Facebook page?

Haha! I just typed up this really long response and then my phone glitched and it's gone.

Yes Dr. Ortiz told us all about the super sleeve. That sounds awesome because I think it will keep us from getting hernias.

I once heard that plication is the same cost as the sleeve.

Someone recently asked if people have regained weights. Two come to mind who said that they regained quite a bit of weight.

Some said they have gained back 5 or 10 lb but that they were fine with it because they had lost too much weight. Most said that they maintained within about 5 lb.

All of them said that you can never relax and eat the way you used to. You have to use this time to retrain your brain. I hope I can.

That's not bad statistics at all, very encouraging. When I started the pre OP diet I was 235 lbs, if I loose all the weight and only gain 5 to 10 lbs of the weight by 5 year or more I will be still so happy. To me that is still success. :) I am 5'9, my ideal weight to be is between 140-150 lbs. I hope I can make it to 140 lbs so I always have some room and dint freak out if I can a few pounds.

I am very happy I met you on here, now we can compare our progress to one another. I wish us both lots of luck.

Do you know how much food ( oz and or ml) our healed stomachs are able to hold?

Omg, I feel just like you. Can't stand Protein shakes anymore. I just want to gag when I see it. I also have sneaked in a few pureed foods. I also am so nervous about this holding up for me. During my Skype consult with Dr. Ortiz, he told me that he does the super sleave. I don't do social media sites so I am not on OCC Facebook page. So there are people on there that talk about their sleeve failing for them? Hearing this makes me even more nervous about this working for me too.

Can someone tell me what a 'super sleeve/sleave' is? Is it your doctor's terminology for a special process that he has come up with /developed or is using?

Yes, my surgeon Dr. Ariel Ortiz at OCC in Mexico told me that he does the super sleeve surgery (he invented himself), basically after he resects the stomach, he uses staples to close the incision area than he uses a row of nylon sutures (none absorbable sutures) to reinforce the same area. This helps reinforce the area to keep it intact longer. I am hoping this method also helps prevent long term stomach stretching out and ruining the sleeves results. I actually spoke to Dr. Ortiz today and he said that he is in the process of publishing a article on the Super Sleeve. I got this surgery done by him on June 12, 2019 and my experience so far has been fantastic.

I think this picture will help visualize what he does. After he places the staples he uses a row of nylon sutures. He said the the staples eventually get loose and fall out will the nylon sutures will permanently stay intact to help reinforce the area.20190625_231409.jpeg

The staple and the stitches he has been doing for awhile. More recently he started adding a few stitches to anchor the stomach in place. This will keep us from getting hernias. (They cut a bunch of tissue to get the big part of the stomach out and it can leave it more free floating and can cause hernias.

This link explains what our surgeon does.

Hi all, how are you all getting on? I had my gastric by pass on the 2nd July and I'm 4 weeks post, 3 weeks on liquids, 2 on pureed and 2 on soft food. I'm on pureed right now. I lost 14lbs in the 1st two weeks. I've been on a stall for 2 weeks. Would love to make some friends on here as I'm from the UK and bariatric surgery isn't popular or a talked about thing. So I'm feeling alone, I hope your all doing well. Xxx

Hi Nay143, how are you? I had the gastric sleeve surgery 2 months ago in June 2019. How is your progress going?

Here is a new video that was posted on YouTube today that explains the super sleeve. Hope it helps.

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
