Scared but my new beginning!

Recommended Posts

I just turned 39, married and have 2 boys. Well 3 but one doesn't live with me. I have always been bigger. Honestly it's been over 20 yrs since I've been under 200. I have always fluctuated and been on numerous diets. I have always been interested in the sleeve or bypass. I have lost over 100 pounds myself about 5 yrs ago but it all came back due to pregnancy and stress. I now have fibro and 2 deteriorated discs in my back so it's hard for me to move around alot. I have always been active so this is a slap to the face. I am so excited my first appt with the weight loss doc is Wednesday. I know it's a process but I'm soooooo ready. I may not post alot and I lurk and read stories. I love seeing everyone's process and that gives me so much hope

Well welcome SuzM, there are a lot of Good people with Good stories on here, lurk if you like, but also feel free to join in on our discussions. You might think from some of the postings there are a lot of complaints, and I might seem that way myself, but I would never trade what I was before, 365+ pounds for where I am , 9 months after surgery, and about ready to leave the 200s behind. And nothing feels as good as my Fat Shell cracking and finding out who I am underneath. Still a little way to my goal, but I now believe I can make it! You're 39, well I am doing all this at 73, and I still am having success. Good luck with your own journey but if we can do anything to help, please ask, okay?

I did that too in preparation for my surgery. Reading people's questions and experiences will not only give you an idea of what to expect -- like the dreaded 3 week stall -- but it will also inspire and encourage you! I love reading people's weight loss bucket lists and non scale victories.

Welcome SuzM! Good for you for making the leap of faith. This community is a great source of info and support.

I'm a mom of 2 as well (8 & 7yo), and they are my number one reason for going on this journey. I want to be around and healthy for when they graduate and go to college, and my type 2 diabetes was making that look more and more unlikely. I walked out of hospital not needing my diabetes meds any longer. That alone has made this all worth it, and all the other good stuff is just getting rolling for me.

Best of luck to you! Ask lots of questions, read all the stories... [emoji4]

I'm 65 years old and tired of being always the "big guy" since junior high school. Are there any "olders" out there that don't necessarily have 40 years ahead of them. I'll probably have surgery in the fall...but am scared because of the irreversibility.

I just turned 39. Hoping to have surgery by December. Depending how long it takes for it to get approved. I've always been bigger too.

I hope everyone is having a lovely week so far!
It's been a bit of a struggle this last week...I'm hungry ALL the time.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
