Good evening everyone. I have a question. Do any of you have factor 5 (blood clotting disorder) and had surgery? I was told I will be on blood thinner shots for 4 weeks after surgery, but wanted to know if anyone else had this and what did you do to prevent getting blood clots. TIA!!

Oh do be careful, I remember an NBC reporter during the Gulf War died of this.I think his name was David Bloom. And I think he was only 40 years old.

I have that too but I didn't have any trouble with blood clots. I made sure to walk around a LOT in the hospital and once I got home post-op and while you're in the hospital they use those things that massage your calves to prevent blood clots and I made sure to use them any time I was in the bed.

I did read about him, but his clot was caused by being in cramped quarters for so long.

Thank you! Did you have shots to take home also? I planned on walking a ton and I also have the massaging calf thing at home I plan on using!

No, I didn't have to do the shots or blood thinners

Take care of yourselves, all of you. I read somewhere that factor 5 ladies have an increased rate of miscarriage, and often that happens before they even get the diagnosis. And yeah, you are correct momof2mnm, it was from prolonged sitting in those tanks, he threw a pulmonary embolism, he had no clue he had this condition, autopsy is a horrible way to find out!
I had a son die at 31 from undiagnosed congenital heart defects, his aorta basically exploded and he bled out within seconds. And no one in the family, including his late Daddy and I had a clue. To know him you would thought him the healthiest of our entire family. 11 years and I will never stop missing HIM in my life. And it took an autopsy to tell us what happened.💦😪

And although I do not share this syndrome with you and Grady Cat. I was super-conscientious. about my Lovenox shots, every 12 hours on the dot for 2 weeks. Didn't hurt, those needles are a very fine gauge, and the clots I had feared didn't happen. And I too had the pumper socks , due more to my age. Very nice things, wish I had invented them, imagine the royalties on each, usuage!

I have factor 5 Leiden and had a sleeve done in January. I had heparin injections while in the hospital and then did Lovenox injections for 2 weeks after surgery. My hematologist said my risk from the surgery was less than a normal person, as long as I took the Lovenox. I have had other surgeries also with no problem but I always do the Lovenox after. Just keep hydrated, walk, walk, walk, and take your Lovenox!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
