I had my band placed in 2005 in Tijuana. I had a great experience and lost about 60lbs in the first year or so. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis in 2009. I have never been able to get my thyroid properly regulated which has caused numerous problems. I have had a lot of issues the past 7 years with reflux, aspiration, and pain in my upper stomach. Basically i have been bulimic for 14 years. I finally went to see an endocrinologist who told me that my band has probably created absorption issues which could be why i cant get regulated. I am scheduled to have my band removed in Tijuana on June 7th. I was hoping someone could share their experience of their removal, any complications, etc. I’m excited to know if relief is immediate.

Hi! I had my LB put in on 2007 n had it removed 5/2018. While having it I had all the same symptoms u had n some. I had a Tummy Tuck on 5/2017 causing me to have lots of port problems n leaving me no choice but to remove the LB. Since the LB was removed it’s been wonderful compared to all the problems I had. But unfortunately, 5 months down the road n in 10/2018 I too lost my thyroid n still struggling with getting my hormone levels adjusted. I’m going to finally go c an Endocrinologist at the end of this month. U having thyroid problems doesn’t have anything to do with the LB or them saying it’s the cause of absorption issues. One thing I will say is that since I lost my thyroid; I’ve gained 70 pounds due to the thyroid medication n it didn’t matter how much I diet or exercised. Ur LB removal will go fine n ur probably going to gain weight cuz ur body is going to go through a lot more major changes. So food for thought.

Chulachichi, thank you. I'm pretty scared to gain a lot of weight. I was 313lbs when it was placed and I have been 130-140 for probably 7 years now. Also scared of another surgery and scared it doesnt really need removed or that I should just push through the way it makes me feel. Lol I guess I'm scared of everything. Anyways thanks for responding.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
