Hiya all, I'm so happy to be on the other side, finally sleeved 4.29. Im curious if my experience so far is within normal.

My surgeon used staples to ensure patients would come to week follow up. I'm pretty sore, but just on the incision to the right on my abd. I'm wearing a binder but when I stand up it feels like my guts will come out. I still need full help standing up. I cant fully stand upright bc of pain. Every sip of room temp Water makes my stomach clench and spasm. I've had a low grade temp today 99.5 with a massive headache. food smells are toooo much. Tried to sip Gatorade zero and it was to sweet. Sipped a little warm Bone Broth, that seems to be ok.

I also had a moment where I had all these thoughts about being a failure, having to cut out parts of me to stop eating. Got really down on myself.

Please someone tell me this is all normal.

And thank you for listening. This place has been wonderful for support and info.

I’m 8 day post op and the stomach spasms with each seep is already much better. My abdominal pain also got a little better but the most painful spot is kind of the lower right quadrant as that has the biggest incision out of the 5. I did not got a binder but I wish I had.

Do not allow any negative thoughts to diminish the greatness of your courage to take control of your body. You are stronger than most for starting this journey that will bring you rewards in so many great ways. Focus on the accomplishments that will await your future.

It gets better. I had dermabond (no staples) and didn't have to wear a binder. I can see where that would be a little confining and maybe frustrating. I drank everything but Water . . . caffeine-free diet peach tea, Gatorade Zero, water with Crystal Light, regular Decaf iced tea.

Look at this as a new beginning and a chance to start over.

I was also sleeved on April 29 my experiences are a bit different. I like ice cold Water the best though my stomach seems to tolerate the lukewarm the best. Lots of funny sounds coming from my stomach assume this is the gas. I have always had gas issues so I tolerate it pretty well. I was advised 4oz per hour the first week I am able to do somewhere closer to 8 oz/hour but I am not pushing it. They gave me a bunch of 1oz medicine style cups but I have since moved to using a shot glass which are 1.5oz.

Pain levels seem to spike every 4-6 hours I have been taking the Tylenol with Codeine which quickly takes the pain back. The best way I have described the pain to people are it feels like getting beaten with a bat where the incision points are. Coughing is a little painful and I havent sneezed yet but I am sure having this done while having a cold would be very challenging.

Mentally I am doing great with no regrets and no cravings. My sleeping has gotten better each night. Night after surgery I could not sleep at all and I was walking the halls.

Things I have tried and can tolerate so far

Water (all temps)/ SF Jello/ SF Italian Ice/ Gatorade G2/ Unjury Readymade Chocolate/ chicken broth.

If your temp gets any higher you should definitely call your doctor .. and I felt the same exact way, I thought I can feel all my guts moving around but my doc said it’s normal and it’s also the nerves from where they did the incisions.. I stopped feeling that way about almost 2 months post op.. I am currently 11 weeks post op.. trust me it all gets better it’s normal to have all those emotions I was the same way the first week .. it does get easier .. you got this!!!

Hi Karenbb8! Congratulations on your surgery! I also had Dr Jawad! Isn't he great! I didn't have a sleeve but had the RNY GB. What you are feeling sounds completely normal. You might need to tighten up your binder a tad to help with the "guts falling out" feeling. I wore mine for a week then didn't need it any more. Also, sipping your fluids a little slower may help with the spasms. Don't be so hard on yourself . You are doing great! Just concentrate on healing and staying hydrated! It all comes together quickly and the pounds will start melting away! Just follow the rules they gave us and you will be successful!

You have made a good choice and congratulations on taking your life back.

I was also sleeved on the 29th. So far so good walking and getting around is ok, although I feel a bit of a pain by the largest incision site. I am showering with no problem. I also washed dishes with no issue standing. Everything is to sweet, but I've been drinking Premier Protein shakes this morning. I've also been taking my Vitamins no problems. I am full after 2 spoonfuls. I have no cravings or urge to eat, but I have to eat to build muscles.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
