Pain Management Post Op.

Recommended Posts

Our doctors no longer utilize opiates for pain control. I am terrified this go around. This surgery is a revision to bypass. They give you a high dose of Gabapentin in the morning before surgery and IV Tylenol after.

After the sleeve I had a pca pump for 24 hrs and went home with a strong pain med for 1 week.

I am terrified because I have Crohns amd my intestines are prone to spasm.

That's terrible! This surgery was more painful than my 2 C-sections and my 3 other abdominal surgeries.

I'm not sure where you are, but I was given plenty of pain medication.

I wish I hadn't had the heavy duty opioids. I felt awful in hospital and didn't think I'd be able to go home. I felt like it was a major workout just to get up to the bathroom and back in bed. The nurse explained that it was likely the morphine and she would switch to the Lortab when it was time for more pain meds. After the morphine wore off and I was good on the Lortab I was in the shower and moving around the room getting my bag packed.

that's awful! I know hospitals are wary of opiates now and getting people hooked on pain meds, but usually some exceptions are made! Just found out yesterday at my pre op meeting Ill be getting liquid Tylenol with codeine. I was surprised at that.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
