Thank you so much!

Surgery ran super long yesterday due to them fixing a hiatal hernia that was undetected before, and fixing keloid scars from my gallbladder procedure last year. Surgery ended up being around 6 hours.
I feel great! No nausea or vomiting, able to keep fluids down, and minimal pain... only around incisions area and gas pressure. I requested pain meds about every 8ish hours due to soreness and incision pain. I HORRIBLE overnight nurses who refused to let me walk until my husband became very stern with them about the risk of blood clots and the gas pain in my chest. At that point they let me go and we talked for about 10 minutes. Hoping to be discharged later on today to continue this journey at home. I’m so excited and happy to finally be at this point!

I'm so sorry that your nurses were so careless

So my surgeon told me if things got worse to go to the nearest ER. Well I did and the ER dr said "are you sure you're supposed to be here? We dont have anyone who does gastric bypass" I'm super sick, weak, and having severe pains in my stomach. I hate some drs who dont want to help. Needless to say, I'm waiting on a CT and labs from a dr who thinks I dont know what I'm talking about. Hah

What a freaking idiot. He doesn't have to do gastric bypass to treat your symptoms and maybe consult with your surgical group. I just hope that you aren't losing blood...that would cause the weakness and stomach pains...the CT scan will see it if it's there and the labs will show the your blood volume.

Prayers my friend :1356_pray_tone2:

Please don't let this freak you out. The vast majority don't have these problems and I have a feeling that she pushed herself too hard...i'm not saying that to be harsh, she knows that I care :)

Totally agree with Armoma45. Given the large number of people having various bariatric procedures these days, the number of those with any major complications is actually quite low. Granted, there are known cases of inexperienced surgeons doing botched operations but that's why you do your research on your surgical team beforehand.

As for having a good support system, it's always better when you do but single folks like myself, with kids all grown and out on their own, we can usually manage on our own. Having kids, especially babies, I would imagine would be quite difficult with no help. It's definitely something you need to consider. You won't want to be picking them up and down for at least a week but more like two. Though it is a laparoscopic procedure, they're still cutting through your abdominal muscles for the 4-5 incisions and those will be hurting and need time to heal. Then there's the gas pain to deal with, although chasing after rugrats that gas should pass fairly quickly. 😄 I don't say all this to scare you into changing your mind, just giving the reality of it. I hope you can find someone to help with the kids for a couple weeks. Also, I saw you ask about stairs....they won't be a problem, if anything they'll probably be good for you. The biggest issue for the first week or two is sitting up in bed or other things that cause you to use your abdominal muscles. Good luck and wishing you all the best.

I use toddler plates from Ikea and just regular measuring cups and spoons. I also have a food scale.

I'm not supposed to lift my 2 year old until a month out. She weighs 30 pounds. She is almost 3 so is able to follow some instructions like laying down on a towel to be changed since she is being difficult about toilet training.

I am really getting fed up with my lack of weight loss. I get it's normal at 3 weeks out but I lost 13 pounds in 10 days then 2 pounds in the next week and 1 pound over the last week. I haven't lost any inches for over a week now. I feel the same guilt and shame I've always felt dieting when people would tell me that spinach and bell pepper was causing me to stall because they have a sweet taste or I must be eating more than I think or sleep eating. People always insist that's it's just a simple matter of calories and that heavy people could just be thin if we eat less. Except the last few weeks have shown me that is such a bunch of bs. I really hope I start having some steady weight loss soon.

Yesterday, my surgeon made me promise (multiple times) to weigh myself only once per week at most. She said that plateaus are inevitable, and that weighing myself too often will cause me to get discouraged when there is no reason to. A high percentage of excess weight will come off over the course of the next year, but it won't come off overnight. I have a friend who didn't lose weight for the first several weeks after bypass (and she eventually did lose a bunch of it). It helps me to remember that this journey is a marathon, not a sprint. Weight can plateau for any number of reasons, many of which are entirely out of my control. I just need to focus on the finish line, as hard as that can be. Just hang in there... *hugs*

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
