What's up all you June misfits??? It is officially our month finally. It is also the first official day of my pre-op liquid diet, even though I started on 5/15 and as of this morning am down 11 lbs. WooHoo. Wishing a warm welcome to all of our newbies that have joined in the last couple of weeks.

I know a lot of people get nervous as their date gets closer but I am actually anxious as hell. It's like the days are going by sooooo slooowww. I am so ready to be sliced and diced.....for the second time. Just hoping and praying that it will be done right this time.

Anyway, best wishes to all getting ready for surgery this month and on the journey afterwards to a new and healthy life.

I feel the same...just can't wait to get my new stomach.

Congrats on the recent weight loss, i'm really not looking forward to the liquid diet lol but more importantly, my kids and coworkers are REALLY not looking forward to my being on the liquid diet lol.

I'm totally excited for everyone!!!

Saturday is here Funky JuneBunch,
It is June 1st…..
Day 6 of the liquid diet….Tomorrow is another milestone……..
I don’t know about anyone else but the shakes are now becoming a bit too sweet for me.
I will have graduated to the Clear Diet phase. I am so looking forward to this.
I can have coffee and broths….. I am an excellent cook/baker and I am getting excited about broths? Go figure. You don’t know how much this means to me…….
I didn’t sleep much last night. I guess I am just anxious with everything going on Monday.
When I finally got my surgery date, it STILL seemed like a million years away and now….It’s finally here.
My family and friends are staying clear of me this weekend. And I wanted it that way. The talk of getting together and going out for a bit to eat or going to the movies…………I just can’t do it right now.
I got on the scale this morning and clocked in still at 217. I am so pleased. Hopefully, with surgery they say you could potentially lose 40%? Oh Jimminy Cricket!!!!!!!!! I won’t know what to do with myself.
Anywho, JuneBunch keep the faith, if I can forgo a week a delectable cuisine, anyone can. This phase/state is just temporary. We have those lovely before and after pictures to pursue.

Hello everyone! I’m beyond excited that it’s finally June! I am 40 yrs old, 5”3” tall. HW 242, SW 236, CW 217. I’m married and have 2 boys ages 7 and 10.

In the last year, I have been diagnosed with hypertension, insulin resistance, obstructive sleep apnea and GERD. I’m currently medicated for all of this including sleeping with a CPAP.

I was approved for RNY May 23rd and I’m scheduled for 5:00 am check in, 7:00 surgery on June 24th. I began the process Jan 8th this year. My instructions are to begin clear liquid diet morning of June 21st and nothing after midnight June 23rd.

I cannot wait for a fighting chance with the tool I need to change my life. I’m ready to commit to a new way to eat and live and to be healthy enough to give my family the very best version of me I can be! Here we go friends!

I am finished with my full liquid diet. Today I start my clear liquid diet however my clear liquid diet consists of Jello, sugar free popsicles, crystal light, Water, clear Liquid Protein shakes(I don’t have), decaffeinated sugar free coffee and tea. I have to be at the hospital at 5:15am and I am determined that this tool will help me to reach my goal weight. I am getting a revision from sleeve to bypass. I have craved every food in the world even the food that I will never eat. I didn’t have anything outside of my diet because with needing knee replacement in both knees I can’t play with getting this weight off and keeping it off.

And @Lifeafter40, my Bariatric Sibling, I wish for you the best of everything and the smoothest surgery ever. As I look back, I do wish.I had surgery before both my knees were replaced , but at that point not everything was in place, and honestly I thought I was hopeless, I would die obese, because I had achieved what I thought an insurmountable age. But my surgeon believed in ME, I believed in ME, I took my chances, and here I am , 9 months on Wednesday, 73 years of age, ready to travel into Onederland, having lost,Are we ready?. 116 pounds since surgery. This is the goal my surgeon and his top N.P. said I had the best chance of achieving, but I still want to try for 175, and I always have said a 15 Junior. Will I make it? I believe so, it was plotted I would achieve there at 18 months instead of the usual 12 month/1 year. I trust my next blood levels will show a correct curve, had an Iron INFUSION in March for anemia which was partially due to TPN for three months, oh it kept me alive, yes it did but the calorie level slowed my weight loss way down, the month post- removal I lost 30 pounds,Ka-thunk. So my continued weight loss was slightly deferred, right NOW at a faster rate than what logic would say. I am still A WORK IN PROGRESS, where it will all end IDK but I am commited to it all . I believe you June 2019 people may even surpass me, the sky is your limit if you stay the course! Hugs and 💕from your Frustr8!!!

If anyone has good thoughts to spare, I could use some. I'm 9 days away from surgery and have come down with a nasty cold. Went and got a strep test just to make sure it's not anything worse. I don't want anything to get in the way of my surgery.

I’ve been fighting one for over a week. Was doing better but this morning my throat was pretty sore. I have to call in the morning to see what the surgeons office says. I don’t feel all that bad but I do have spots back there so I may need antibiotics. If this postpones me I’m going to be so annoyed.

Heading into the home stretch on my liquid diet. Cold is on it's way out. I found this weekend to be challenging in terms of cravings. Maybe because work is more distracting.

I did have a nice non-scale victory to Celebrate. I purged my closet of some already too-big clothes. Very satisfying.

Good luck to our friends having surgery Monday and Tuesday! I look forward to joining you on Friday.

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?
      1. NickelChip

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
