Hi!
I am 41 years old, have a fantastic, supportive hubby, and two beautiful teens (is that even possible?). I had RnY on June 18th, and surgery went well. I escaped the hospital the day after surgery, and was pleasantly surprised by the lack of pain. I stopped my pain meds the day after surgery, and then stopped Tylenol 4 days post op. The first few days were tough-- just so tired-- but each day gets better than the last.

I'm REALLY struggling to drink enough Water. I freakin. hate. Water. Cold water hurts, so I started drinking room temp (yuk), and today's 'trick' is to drink hot water with herbal tea in it to try to get it in.
Anyone have any tips to get the water down?

Can you do Crystal Light? You can also add a sprig of mint or a slice of cucumber and pretend you're at the spa! For me, herbal tea is better as iced tea -- maybe the cold won't bother you much later.

I'm also a 41-year-old mom -- Congratulations on doing the thing! :-)

Good Evening Funky June Bunch,

Today I survived the all liquid diet.< /span>

But with one step forward there is always one step backwards.

I am suffering from a case of yup you guessed it!!!!! Constipation

I haven’t had it this bad in years. But it is getting better.

Well within 24 hours I will have entered the Post stage of WLS.

I got on the scale this evening and what do you know……….216!!!!!

Well I can’t wait to get tomorrow over with.

I will possibly check in the morning or even afterwards to let you all know I made it!!!

June Bunch….. We Go This!!!!!!

Congrats on your upcoming WLS. PRAYING all will go well! Please let us know how it goes. I had RNY on June 3rd and am now down 24.3 lbs. Have had some bouts of nausea which I attribute to the ATB Doxycycline. Will be done with that in 2 more doses. YAY! The all liquid diet Post-op was a challenge for be but it is done. My husband says “ What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”. 😀😀😀😀

I am in week 3 post op and don't feel like eating nothing seems appetizing this week and I am nauseated. Any suggestions? I am so tired of Protein Shakes that each time I take a sop I feel sick again.

I'm tentatively scheduled for RNY on July 2, so I'll be quietly lurking in the shadows on this group. I can be like the a very distant cousin in your little family LOL

I'm a teacher, so my bariatric team knew that I wanted a summer surgery. I'll be done with all of my requirements Monday April 29, so I'm a little ahead of the game.

Good luck to us all!

Hey how are you doing?? Good luck with your surgery. Mine is on July 16th for RNY revision surgery from the sleeve surgery almost 3 years ago.

Hi all,

I survived my 2 weeks of Optifast, managing to get in at least 3 and sometimes 4 shakes each day. Those two weeks included a business trip out of town (flights, hotel, conference, etc), 2 birthday parties (one of them was mine!) and Father’s Day. I was really proud of myself for sticking to the plan. Then came the two Water and sf Jello days. Then June 21 was surgery day. Was at the hospital at 6 am and gastric bypass was on schedule at 8 am. I vaguely recall waking up in the PACU, asking for more pain meds, and that was it. Then I was in my semi-private room in the hospital for two nights. I got myself a Fitbit for my bday and made it my goal to get 250 steps every hour in the hospital, so I was that patient wheeling my IV pole around the hospital halls, starting at 1 pm on the day of my surgery and going every hour until 11 pm and starting again in the mornings. That first day was the most uncomfortable in terms of gas pains and very dry mouth. I wasn’t allowed to drink anything that first day. I could just swish water around and spit it out. Saturday I was allowed water, sf jello, sickly sweet juices, and tea and had to record every tablespoon I drank every hour. Sunday, I started passing gas (apparently a big milestone!!), was taken off IV, and was discharged. The pain was very manageable and I was told this is because I was so determined to walk a little bit so frequently.

I’ve been home now for a week and a half. I’ve been on ‘full liquids’ (protein shakes, milk, sf yogurt, sf pudding, cream Soups, broth soups, and runny oatmeal), and been doing great. I’ve been getting all my Protein and my water in without any issues. I’ve also been getting out for walks and getting 8000+ steps in each day. I’m planning on going back to work tomorrow. My plan has me starting soft solids on Saturday so we’ll see how that goes!

I have to say that my recovery has gone very smoothly so far. I’m sending all my June surgery siblings positive vibes and wishing you all the smoothest recovery possible.

I understand how you feel. These Protein Shakes are going to be the death of me.

What brand of Protein Shakes are you all using?
I’ve got ones called Premier Nutrition. They are pre-mixed and have 30g Protein and come in vanilla, chocolate, and caramel. I wouldn’t say they are ‘yummy’ or ‘tasty’, but IMO they are sooo much better than Optifast was (which I gagged down every day for 2 weeks).
I am alternating between the Premier ones and Isopure Low Carb Dutch chocolate powder. I have an Unjury sample pack on hand, but haven't really tried those yet.

I had my surgery on June 26th. My surgeon was phenomenal and I had a great experience, for me the biggest problems were the CO2 they pumped you full of getting out and post op I can tolerate almost anything. Got fussed at by the nurses cause I went to soft solids way too fast.

On on the plus side when I started I was 407 lbs and I’m down to 363. The day of surgery I was 385.

I also am tired all the time. Never slept so much in my life.

Surgery was 6/18. Today is 7/8, and I have lost a grand total of 12 lbs. since surgery. I'm feeling deflated emotionally. I thought I would have lost more weight by now. What gives? Anyone else s-l-o-w at losing?

I had surgery 1 day after you pn 6/19 and I stepped on the scale for the first time today since surgery and I've only lost 8 lbs. It BROKE me. Like I'm so so upset so I understand completely.

Wanderlust and Bullet: I totally feel this. I had a number on mind for my first month. (Sleeved on June 7.) Came up short. :-( Definitely beating myself up a bit, wondering if I didn't do enough. Trying to focus on the new month ahead. Solidarity.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
