I had gastric sleeve on 3/5/19 and I’m down 60 pounds since surgery and 72 pounds in total if I include pre surgery weight loss
Seems like I stall for about 4 days every 3 weeks !

Protein isn’t exclusive to meat, green leafy vegetables like broccoli, spinach, asparagus and artichokes, Beans, Brussels sprouts, potatoes, sweet potatoes, legumes, lentils, soy, tempeh, seitan, edamame, quinoa, chia seeds, hempseed, peas (pea protein) oats, nut butters, nutritional yeast, etc. have Protein.

even some fruits have protein like guava, blackberries, nectarines and bananas.

Not all vegan foods are healthy and you still need protein. I’m not sure I understand the no oils part. Our body needs healthy fats, including for brain function. A lot of people do Atkins vegan. High fat, moderate protein and low carb, no added sugar and low glycemic foods.

Im not arguing your post. I studied nutrition. I’ve also seen a lot of people who eat plant based become extremely unhealthy. Not to say vegan can’t be healthy. But certain things need to be supplemented. And the body still needs healthy fats and protein to function. Protein is more for muscle maintenance and repair and is Best before rest than exercise.

You are correct that protein is in all food and there are many high protein vegan foods, but what I was trying to convey is that I do not track or prioritize protein. I could not tell you how many grams of protein I eat in a day. What I prioritize is eating whole plant foods that have not been processed or have added oils or sugars. And you are correct that our bodies need fat and I do not avoid fat but added oils like olive oil and canola oil are much like sugar. They are highly processed foods that have all of the other properties like Fiber and nutrients stripped from them so I get my fat from foods like nuts, avocados, and nut butters.

And you are correct that there is vegan junk food like Oreos and Swedish Fish but my diet is 90% of the time whole foods so i eat fruits, vegetables, Beans, rice, potatoes, for all of my meals and with a few exceptions I will eat some vegan junk foods but even that is more whole food than not like air popped popcorn. And for me diets like Atkins or Keto do help people lose weight but I don't just care about weight loss I care about health and longevity and the evidence is pretty compelling that people that eat mostly plants live the longest, are the healthiest and are the thinnest when compared to people that eat other diets including vegetarian, paleo, keto and others.

And yes vegans do need to supplement B12 which is something I do but I don't view that as a mark against veganism especially when you consider that many people that eat meat are also b12 deficient.

But this is the way I have chosen to eat and so far my weight loss has been rapid and consistent and I have far exceeded the projected loss rate and I continue to lose. So it seems the human body is adaptable and there are many ways to eat but for me I have found what works best for me.

I am 23 days out from my gastric bypass on June 17. I was feeling like I'm doing something wrong because everything said the weight will melt off. Day off surgery I was 295, today I'm 281. Is this loss slow? I do notice I eat a quarter of what I would have normally eaten. I just got the app today. Glad to hear other stories.
The weight will come off.
For the first few weeks, many of us fight off inflammation and swelling and our bodies are in shock and haven’t yet switched into weight loss mode.

I lost 23 pounds in the first 12 days then lost 2 pounds over the next 20 days.
Then after that it came off slooooooooooooooooow for about 2 months then I stalled again for another 5 weeks.
Now I’m 5 months post op and I’m lucky to lose 5-6 pounds/month.

In June I lost 6.2 pounds, but over 12 inches off of my body in waist, hips, lower abs, chest, arms, and thighs.

Make sure to take measurements and track those as well

Since my surgery on 2/6/19 I’ve lost 8.5 inches off of my waist, 13 off of my lower abs, and 11.5 off of my hips. That’s in 5 months over which I’ve lost 65 pounds.

For perspective, that’s basically a whole FOOT of width that I don’t take up now.
Imagine sitting down and having an extra 6 inches on each side of your hips!

Just a week shy of 3 months and down 75lbs since the start of my pre-op diet. Had my 3 months follow up and Dr. was really pleased with the results. Better still is not taking insulin, blood pressure or using a CPAP anymore.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
