Hello everyone,

I had the gastric sleeve done on March 25, 2019. I'm post op day 18 and having a really hard time adjusting. I am at the stage where I can eat mushies and that has been going slightly well. Still very thirsty though. I'm following my diet plan but my mind and heart are really struggling with this new lifestyle. I can't help but think about pizza and sodas. I don't feel much hunger.. just mostly cravings if that makes sense. It came to a point where I cried really hard to my support system which they have been nothing but outstanding. Everyone knew that I was absolutely in love with my body. I loved every inch of my body. However, the harm I was causing myself really scared me and lead me doing the surgery. Now, seeing the weight leave my face and back really hit me hard. I just want to know.. does it get easier? Will I be allowed to eat anything with sugar? I appreciate all the answers. Thanks. I wish I knew I am just 3 days out and am having a hard time drinking. I can't wait to get to the mushy food phase. I am not thinking of pizza but OMG the thought of a mushroom swiss burger with grilled onions drives me nuts:) I hope things get better for you soon!

Yes, it gets easier. The first month is by far the most difficult. I have cravings still, and I allow myself to have those cravings every now and then. Moderation is key. I also eat small pieces of dark chocolate daily, and I track it. Balance is also key. You've got this. Get through the rest of your first month, and it will all get easier.

You seem to be in a unique situation considering you are mourning the weight you will be losing. Have you discussed this with your Doctor so you are mentally prepared for the change?

Hello,

Yes, we had several deep discussions as well as a therapist who helped me weigh the cons and pros. The cons of being so heavy and it restricting my life goals ultimately is the reason for the surgery. I didn’t do this surgery to help my self esteem but did it so my heart and lungs can be healthy.

Great to hear that! Best of luck.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
