I know I've been on here a few times to discuss my diet. I had surgery March 14th 2019 (bypass) and I can't seem to get things in. I can't drink enough or eat the puree like I'm supposed to. It's Saturday at almost 2am and I'm on the couch sobbing. My stomach has been growling. I almost burst into tears tonight when we were out for my boyfriends birthday dinner with his family but I didn't. I held it together. I can't figure out how to make this all work. I think I'm severely dehydrated and literally starving. I have a few things going on that are complicating things for me and they are both so dumb. One is that I have multiple friends who've had this surgery done that are insisting that I do this or that, that I shouldn't be on purees yet. I have a neighbor I frequently hang out with that has A friend who's had this surgery so she thinks she knows all about it and is trying to tell me what to do and how I should feel. The other thing is that I'm really normally a very tough person. No one is used to seeing me hurt or struggle. I'm not the type to complain. I'm a lead singer in two different bands and I've taken seriously bad falls off the stage and chipped bones once and split my face open on another occasion and just kept rolling with the night so everyone just thinks I feel nothing but this is different. It's not the pain that bothers me and to me the pain wasn't even so bad it's that every time I feel pain or just something different it's scary because it could be an indicator to something being wrong and I get really anxious. I'm so grateful for this forum because honestly it's the one place I can come and not only be vulnerable and honest and know the people here won't just say hey you're right Jezz, you'll be fine. I don't even know what this post is about. It's the mad rantings of a hungry, tired, frustrated person trying to figure it out. I just feel lost and I can't wait until Monday so I can call my Dr and get help. I'm just REALLY afraid to eat and feel like I'm waisting away. Not getting Protein. Again I'm so sorry. (Half of me hopes no one reads this, the other half of me is praying that someone completely relates with me because I feel crazy)

Your stomach is still swollen from the surgery. You're not going to get a lot of things in and if your surgeon had advanced you to puree, then puree it is. However, hasn't your surgeon also explained that it will take you very long to eat right now? This is how you get on what you need, by setting adding 40-60 minutes for a meal and very slowly taking it in. This is very very very very early in your surgery. Be very very very careful and especially be patient. There is no need to cry over anything at this point. Instead, be thrilled you have a new tool the will serve you well so long as you follow your SURGEON's direction and not your friends! Be in daily contact with your surgeon's dietician. This is where your anchor can be found. Not here on Bariatric Pal and NOT your friends. Your anchor is in the program at your surgeon's office.

I hope by now you're already at the doctor's office. You're barely on your 3rd week right? and if I'm not mistaken, you can now introduce your stomach to very soft stuff, very slowly, but you're on the right track if you're at the doctors. Your doctor can give you the best advise and check you if you're healing well.... Not your neighbor, not your friends, not this discussion group. It is critical to listen to your doctor. I wish you all the best. I'm sorry you're going thru all these hardship and frustration. Keep us posted.

So I found a Protein Drink that I really like and I'm thinning it out with low fat fair life milk and that's making me feel a lot better. I also today found this little squeeze bottle of calorie free flavor that I LOVE. I actually have to make myself slow down lol!!! Feeling better now!

So glad you’re feeling better! I could have been the author of this post when I was 2 weeks out. I was an emotional mess, too. And just felt miserable. I’m about ten weeks out now, and I feel absolutely great. The first couple of weeks were no joke for me, though.

The first 30-60 days are very emotional for many people. From the change in your body burning energy from fat instead of food, to the totality of the surgery, emotions run rampant in many folks. Hydrate then Protein should be your time right now, food will come later so don’t worry. I was on liquids two weeks post op but did have a spoonful of mashed taters the day after thanksgiving and it was the most delicious thing I’ve ever tasted! Way better then the chicken broth I enjoyed for thanksgiving... you’ll get through it - post for support but stay hydrated. If you can’t go to the ER - no joke.

I'm glad you're feeling better. Just hang in there, it's an emotional and physical rollercoaster at first but it gets better and better each day.

I was having the same issue trying to get Protein in earlier this week on my liquids. Isopure zero carb saved my lifeeee! Good luck and hang in there. It'll get better! I'm almost to soft foods and can't wait.

Thank you all. I'm not an emotional eater but when I'm tired I can get emotional. Also I didn't know about the estrogen being stored in the fat. I also have a disorder where I have more testosterone than estrogen so perhaps I'm not used to this aligh amount of estrogen being released lol. I heard you all loud and clear. FOCUS ON HYDRATION. Can you give me the name of a safe and good tasting clear Liquid Protein shake so I can make the popsicles out of them! And what are the snow cones mentioned above?!?!?

Isopure is a clear Protein Drink that tastes like watered down koolaid. I don’t recommend doing it like I did in this picture (I made ice cubes and blended it) but just cold out of the bottle it’s good.

      Happy Wednesday!

I hope everyone is having a lovely week so far!
It's been a bit of a struggle this last week...I'm hungry ALL the time.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
