Buying clothe

Recommended Posts

So... what do you do with all of your old clothe? How do you learn what to buy for the new body? I have a set budget in mind but I look at stuff and not sure how it'll look.

Sorry if this post makes no sense I am super tired... but cant sleep.

Donated sell them. Many hospitals have a Clothes Closet-type thing, take in your too bigs and exchange them for smaller sizes. My local Wal- Mart is remodeling, got clearance bras and panties for a $1 and $1,50, if I ubdergrow them no big thing, I'm not out much. Got a cute T-shirt, one size down, should not be long until I fit it. I am proud of me this week, HW was 365+, SW319, well Tuesday I was 234.6, 7 months out, and my 26-28-30s are going bye bye , I hope to make it down to 20s Mothers Day or so, and I finally weigh less than Tomkitten, my son! A long time coming but a sweet victory still. And this time he got the jaundiced eye from our PCP instead of ME!

As someone who has had major weight losses in the past, I am keeping my large clothes for now. They are my insurance policy that I won't need to wear them again. I have them stored in my attic.

As for new clothes, since I don't know where I will end up, I am buying things on an as-needed basis such as bras, underwear, workout clothes, and a few nice things for work. I think a lot of people go to cheap stores like Walmart or thrift stores. I like finding cheap designer clothes on eBay. Just find a seller that accepts returns if they don't fit.

When I had to buy new suits for work I went to Talbots where I knew they would help me find the right size. Nordstrom and Bloomingdales also have employees that will help you find the right size and make suggestions. The downside is that these stores are more expensive for clothes you may not be able to wear for long.

I've hit the clearance sales at Kohl's and the local charity thrift stores for transition pieces while I'm losing weight because I don't want to invest too much in a new wardrobe while I'm still changing sizes.

Depends what you need the clothing for where I would suggest you go. I would just get some basics for now. I grabbed some stuff at Old Navy-- good prices if you hit their sales and it wears okay...but since you may not be wearing the same sizes for too long, to me it's fine. I am not a Kohl's fan for clothing anymore, but plenty of people love it there. I also don't have any good thrift stores around....that being said, NY &Co has good sales, Target even has cute stuff, Old Navy (like i said), if you need work tops/slacks- Dress barn is okay sometimes.

As for old stuff, i just donated 10 bags....have lots more to go eventually but donation for me is easy. I do not have time to try to sell stuff and would rather just give it away.

I've slowing been going through my "skinnier clothes" that I've kept over the years (in case I lost weight of course!), and piling up the clothes I'm sizing out off on one side of my closet. I'm planning to sell the good items to a thrift shop, and the not-so-good ones are going into the donation bin. I don't want to keep them if only as a symbolic gesture that I will never need them ever again.

As for going through my skinny clothes, they are depleting and there are only size 6's left in my stash, which I can't fit into comfortably yet.

I haven't done any major shopping, just underwear and bras, and SOCKS.

However, I do plan on doing some serious shopping soon as I need some summer clothes and some new shoes (my feet have shrunk 1.5 sizes!)...kinda excited :)

I gave all my clothes away. Some I gave to family members others I gave to Goodwill type stores. Some I threw in the trash.

After I reached the Maintenance phase, I had fun filling up my closet again. Generally I am a great bargain shopper and purchase clothes at around a 70 percent discount. So the process is a little like treasure hunting. It gave me the chance to buy the latest fashions and trends. Made me a new man. Wife didn't appreciate this though. She thought I should look my age.

I personally do not have a clothes budget, If I see something that I like I generally just buy it. I am an XL now with a lot of clothes in my closet that no longer fits and after my surgery I will use those as I progress with my weight loss. I did purchased a nice wrap dress this week and I've been buying workout clothes.

I've been giving my old clothes away. Casual stuff to Goodwill/Salvation Army type of places. Work clothes to a local chairty that helps women transition from homelessness by providing work skills, interviewing practice, and professional clothes for interviews and work. They always desperately need plus size clothes.

For the most part, I just wore my old dresses with belts. I also bought a pair of jeans in every size down when there were on super sale at Lane Bryant or Old Navy. I'm now at a point where I can't really fit my old clothes, so I bought some staples (T-shirts, sweaters, etc) on sale at Old Navy and went to the outlet mall and bought some work clothes on sale there. I did buy one full price suit at Macy's because I had an event where I needed to actually look nice.

I will add - one problem I've found is that I'm losing a LOT faster in the hips/legs than in the waist. So a lot of my old smaller clothes just don't fit correctly. They fit in the waist and are unbearably baggy in the butt/legs. So, I'm just getting used to that. I think I still have a plus-sized waist, but normal sized legs.

I plan to donate mostly everything, but I want a super chic cute look so I dont want to be rebuying pieces. And stuff in the clearance can be cute but depends. I think thrift shopping with be amazing in the end.

I'm the opposite, old pants/jeans fit my hips and legs, but they gape at the waist, especially at the back...if you stand behind me you can look down my jeans when I'm not wearing a belt. It doesn't help that my butt has deflated considerably 🙄.

WLS wish: that we could choose where the weight came off from. 🙏

Know this song you're singing about no choice where the weight loss starts, my firsts were forearms, face, neck, chest, my Boobs are approaching tube Sox with tennis balls, then rump fat pad Before the actual, side to side measure went down, now thighs and belly, although I fear it never will go flat, too many years and 3 over 9 pounder babies did a evil thing to muscles there. And now I have gone from solid obese bloat to ridges where the fat has dissolved, this is NOT what I thought was meant by " Washboard Abs" think I could srubs stains out there first before doing laundry. Oh well, it is what it is! Still I am becoming half the Woman I once was and twice as thrilled as I thought I could be! Onederland may be not that far ahead, and T *H *A*T is sure something I doubted would ever come. Yeah I told my Bariatric Team it was my desire, but I had failed so many diets at so many diets, I was willing to spout the Company Line nut didn't truly believe glhard work would bring anything but exhaustion m But I had Exhausted all my other options, I was even a Structurelized Starvation failure, made me sick, not thin. You become pretty much a NonBeliever in defense. But from 365+ down to 234.6, it is as much a miracle as this Woman could find. Where will I stop? Dr Needleman's NP Valerie would be satisfied with just sub-200 for me at 73, but deep inside is a little kernal that says " Maybe you can still make it down to 175, maybe you'll make your dream of a 15 Junior!" I mentioned in another thread getting $1 bras and panties on clearance at Wal- Mart, well they are C cups, for my weight I am not excessively busty, many are D, DD or above! I told someone I was talking to I am a Bloated Athletic build, she said the two don't go together, well that's the category I belong in, once the Fat Shell finishes cracking and falls away, the world will see. And,because,i have 2 knee replacements and an ankle that was not adequately repaired I cannot get on my toes to run, but I would like to walk a portion of a marathon before I turn 75. Is that a silly senile dream? Sure hope not!

We’re regular donaters. My grandson lives with us and grows like a weed so we’re always donating outgrown clothes. One difference is I’m thinking about taking my super comfy T-shirt’s (especially the ones from vacays) and making a quilt out of them. A big comfy reminder of my soon to be former, fat self.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
