Weight lost stall after 9 months

Recommended Posts

Had my surg on July 10 2018. Went to the ER a week or two later or a stomach pain...turns out it was pancreatitis.

I started at 276 and now I'm at 216. I feel like I should have definitely lost more by now. 😖

My surgery was July 11 and I've only lost 36 pounds since surgery day. I'm eating 1200 calories a day and getting exercise daily but the scale just doesn't move very fast or at all. I'm so frustrated.

people lose at all different rates for all different reasons - starting BMI, gender, age, metabolism rate, whether or not you lost a lot of weight before surgery, etc. I was a slow-loser from the get-go, and I lost all of my excess weight. Your commitment to your program is going to be a MUCH better predictor of your eventual success than your rate of weight loss will. Are you following your plan to a T? Are you weighing/measuring/tracking your food so you know for sure? If so, don't worry - the weight will come off, whether fast or slow. If you aren't doing that, then get back to it. The farther out you get, the easier it is to stray - we have to be diligent - both now and once we hit maintenance.

60 pounds is a great weight loss! Keep in mind that you are only going to lose 70% of your excess weight and it hasn't even been a year yet. They target 18 months for full weight loss.

Hi I’m new here, I had VSG in August 2018 and I am far from an expert!

Have you calculated your basal metabolic rate? My nutritionist and Dr did that with me and if I want to MAINTAIN my weight I can eat 1250 calories a day. I am eating 700-900 a day getting close to my goal weight and now losing about 3-4 lbs a month. I do elliptical 20 minutes a day 5 days a week and just started weight training. I need to up my exercise, so I’m joining the gym this month.

You can check your basal metabolic rate online. Mine was within 50 calories compared to what the Dr told me. Age, gender, weight and activity level determine your number. It changes as you lose weight.

@Cheesburgh, my surgeon put me on 1200 calories a day and 90 g Protein. I calculated my BMR and it's 1536 so obviously I've got some room for improvement. According to what I'm reading in these forums, I am eating way too much.

As others have said, we all lose differently but my doctor told me that my long term plan should be....60 gms protein/day, 800-1,000 calories/day, maximum of about 1 c. food per meal, 64 oz fluids/day and at least 30-60" of exercise daily. He said to never go over 1,000 calories daily forever.

I definitely agree that we all loose at different rate. When long term 60lbs is a great weight loss so far and I agree if you are not tracking you should. My program is between 800cal-1000cal, but I never go over 800 cal .Protein is 60g-100g still trying to hit 60g. My dietitian told me aim for 60g

Talk to your dietitian and to go over your daily intake to see if there is any changes you can make. Exercise is also very important. I also encourage you to attend a support group.

Don't be discouraged you can do this!!

calorie intake for maintenance is going to be an individual thing, depending on height, weight, metabolic level, etc. I can maintain on 1700 kcal a day - but I know other people who maintain on 1000 or 1200. He may have meant that 1000 kcal/day limit for you as opposed to everyone. I'd lose weight on 1000 kcal a day.

I hit a stall at 9 months too and I'm still in it. I know eventually things will move along again, but I'm frustrated that I'm only 15lbs away from losing 100lbs and I just want to get there!! lol

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
