spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend/family heavy??

Recommended Posts

Mine was, girl! And is probably still in the obese category if not overweight. BUT. We both started this weight loss journey (for the billionth time), about 18 months+ ago. His blood sugars were crazy at 250+ and he weighed about 60-65lbs more than he does now. We live a low carb life. For him that's all it's really taken (and beginning walking and core exercises) to lose that weight over time without angst. (It took me not only doing that but cutting cals/carbs/fat razor thin and having RNY) to accomplish the same things! He's been able to stop 2 diabetes medications as of yesterday and we're hopeful that within the next 2 weeks he will be able to stop his blood pressure medication.

He's doing so much better!! And I'm so proud of him. We've actually grown together in our efforts to support each other and to implement our healthy lifestyle=new reality, rather than apart. He still wants to lose another 30lbs and I'm fully committed to helping him realize that goal. We want to live a healthy, whole life, free of disease for as many years as possible/shortening the window of morbidity to a very narrow area--later in life.

@FluffyChix

so nicely put, congrats!!

working together during this process is great, watching out for each other. but warning,

no "food police" allowed in/out of house. DH following in your footsteps, wanting to win by

losing, can't get much better than that. getting rid of some meds is always a great motivator.

holding a glass of Water up to your DH - and you too!! Fluffy, you must be a great inspiration

to him, and here too on the board. keep up the good work for both of you.😊

Yes, growing together is hard--much harder even after WLS! Right? So I do feel blessed to have such a supportive partner. And IDK about me inspiring him. He's super strong and independent. I do know he inspires me and supports my efforts toward health--every day. :)

Nope, my DH is almost 6'2", 180 lbs. He'd like to lose about 20 (naturally very slim), but only if he can manage to lose without giving up beer and pizza! He does, however, have blood pressure and cholesterol issues. When my weight got under his about 5 months ago (first time ever), I felt so feminine! I hadn't realized that it bothered me in that way.

spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend/family heavy?

My spouses’ weight is fine. He can eat whatever he wants and maintains. It makes me crazy

I have two female family members that struggle with their weight. The relationships are strained and uncomfortable.

My girlfriend and her husband had surgery a year ago. They initially lost and gained it back. She told me that being around me just reminds her of the weight gain. They stopped hanging out with all our friends. I’m sad because no one cares about their weight.

My Hubs is normal weight and pretty much eats anything. (The slender jerk! LOL!)

In our 28 years of marriage he has seen me through a bunch of different weights and has always, always been super supportive of me. Something I probably take for granted much too often. I am really grateful to have him- he's a keeper!

Since starting my journey, he is my biggest cheerleader and is always willing to restructure our meals etc. in an effort to really take hold of the new lifestyle coming our way as a family. He is really a big part of my motivation in getting healthy- I'll take as many more years as we can get together!

Hubbs is probably bit on the overweight side. Not obese, though. Never had nearly the weight issue I did.

My immediate family was/is heavy. Mom is low-carbin’ it and kicking butt right now. Dad’s passed but had lost a bunch of weight just before getting diagnosed with cancer. Older brother has weight issues. Two older half siblings that didn’t/don’t have weight issues. One was chubby as a teen but has been a thin adult his whole life.

Hubs could probably stand to lose a few but basically looks the same as when we got married 35 years ago (albeit with less hair). I was thin back then too but doubled my weight during my 3rd (and last) pregnancy. He’s supported and loved me through thick and thin.

Hubby is a normal BMI. Myself and my father are the obese ones. My brother has maybe 20-30 lbs to lose, but nothing major.

@Healthy_life2

LOL, that would drive me crazy too! unfortunately I will never have that problem with my DH.

I married him 28 years ago when he (me too) were heavy. He doesn't want to change (love him

anyway)!!!

It should be illegal for ANYONE to be able to eat and eat and..... with no repercussions!!🤣

Your maintaining, look great, but as with most of us - it will always be a struggle. "all of a sudden"

i've been dealing with portion control!! Concerning your friends gaining back weight after WLS,

that's sad in itself - I understand why they might feel self-conscious to be around you. I can relate

to those feelings, but unfortunately all of you have lost your circle of friends. Touchy subject

My husband works out like crazy and then comes home and eats 8 Girl Scout Cookies. I try to explain to him how important diet is and he says “well, I worked out so it evens itself out” Um, not unless you ran a marathon. He still
Eats like he has the metabolism of a 20 year old guy.

Of my immediate family I am the only one who has been consistently overweight for sustained periods of time, occasionally my mother and sisters have put on weight, they seem to lose well and keep the weight off for long periods. None of the males in my family have been overweight.

Only one ex long term boyfriend/partner has been overweight, the other two ex long term partners were slim/average.

Went to see the Star Wars movie yesterday. (Glad I waited as no one else was in the cinema for the midday session - yes!) Hadn’t been to the cinema for a few months and OMG I suffered the most terrible butt pain.  So uncomfortable. Started after 30 mins. Was in the premium cinema so grabbed a cushion to sit on but it didn’t help. Ended up sitting sideways in the chair, stretched out on an ottoman. Soooo super glad no one else was there. Sometimes I do miss my old butt fat cushioning... but not really.

I have a surgery date, I have my next doctor appointment on Wed and then Thursday I start my 2 week liquid pre-op diet. I am very nervous right now. I know it's going to be a tough mind game.

      Week 5 Post Op Report

What a journey! I am 5 weeks from surgery and a total of 24.4 pounds down!

I feel amazing! I’ve incorporated a ton of walking and I’m using my Apple Watch to help me along! I have closed all three of my fitness rings for 11 days straight! Ok, so I am in LOVE with my Apple Watch. I've had it for almost a year and I am just now tapping into it's fitness power!

I keep on top of my protein, vitamins and biotin!

I struggle with water but I average about 50 ounces a day. I have only had one day where I had to “purge” because something did not agree with me. Tuna and my Tiny Tummy still do not agree so I’m going to leave it alone for a while!

I walk on average a little more than 3 miles a day for my exercise but manage to get in at least 13,000-17,000 steps a day depending on how my schedule goes.

I get up every hour and walk around for at least five minutes. Then if I’m watching a show I get up and walk in place during the commercials!

I meet with my doc this week for a progress report.

I have one more week before I graduate from soft foods to the final phase!

I’ve got my cookbooks ready, my food scale ready and my measuring plates ready!

I could NOT be more happy with my progress! I feel amazing and I’m grateful to have this tool!

None Scale Victory: My rings on my finger are spinning!

Sabrina, you are doing so well. I'm truly inspired and equally excited for you. The view you shared is breathtaking and relaxing, I'm in love with the ocean. Please keep sharing. Where did you find the trackers and how do I access them? My date is approaching the 31st, I'm in liquid diet mode. I see my surgeon on the 17th. Any advice?

      2. SabrinaGoddess

You got this sis! You totally do.
The ocean is so peaceful. Some days I get blessed with seeing whales, dolphins and seals. It is truly amazing.

You can go to under our name at the top left section and click "TICKERS" you can create them there. Then when you lose weight you just go to "my surgery" and change your weight and they will adjust.

On the liquids, do sugar free pop-cycles. They are more like a treat than a liquid and they count as 2 ounces each! Liquids not the funnest part of our journey but who cares....LOL. I do like the IsoPure clear liquid protein drinks, you can get them at GNC. The flavors are ok. I also LOVED Kettle and FIre Broth and Epic Broths so I drank them all the time, it's good for you. It's BONE BROTH. Kinda pricey but the good stuff usually is.

      3. Krimsonbutterflies

Thank you for the encouragement/positivity!!! I'm going to conquer this liquid phase, moment by moment. I also appreciate the mini tutorial of how to get the ticker. I'm thinking of starting status updates after my pre-op visit with the surgeon on Friday. I really enjoy the personal perspective and experience being shared, without feeling like the thread is being dominated. I look forward to how each person is approaching the wls lifestyle. Thank you lady, good night. Happy Whale watching. I love seeing the dolphins at Hermosa Beach.
