So today I had my 1st dr visit with my surgeon. I attended the seminar on 01/22/19 so this actually my second visit. Today I weighed in @ 257lbs, 39.1 BMI and I’m 5’8. So my insurance requires a 3 month diet program which includes, 3 dr visits, 1 Psych eval and 1 dietician visit. I have already had my upper GI and labs are done. Today the dr. told me everything was fine with my labs. I do have low Vitamin D and low B12 , which I was advice to start taking them. I’m also required to have a sleep study and urine test ( I’m a smoker) before surgery. Oh I forgot to mention that I selected to have VSG, which my dr. agrees it’s the best for me.

I’m nervous and anxious not Scared, but my support team is small. My mom thinks I can do it without surgery, so that has stopped me from telling others like my father and my brother. My husband says he ❤️’s me the way I am but he supports me 100%. It’s his insurance that’s actually paying for everything. I just wanted to share my story as I began to change my life to get healthy ( High Blood Pressure , pre Diabetic). I’m 44 years with 4 kids and my goal is to live a long healthy life , and I think I’m making the best decision for me.

Hello and welcome.

Some people do not seem to realise that if we couldn't have lost weight and successfully maintained the weight loss we would have done by now. Surgery isn't a first choice weight lost tool, its a last resort for most of us after many years of trying.

I assume you will need to give up smoking before the surgery, probably the sooner you do that the better. As you get closer to the the final tests and pre op diets...you won't want the stress of giving up smoking at the same time.

Hope it all goes well for you

I’m in Australia so things are a bit different here and I went to see my surgeon about the same weight as you but an inch taller 🤭
my surgeon refused to operate while I was a smoker. I wanted the op so badly I ditched my best friend of 33 years and was operated on day 72 smoke free. Please give up now. Just do it. It’s so much safer during surgery, less complications post op and healing also much better which you want so you can get off purées faster 😂

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
