Okay so I was sleeved on 2-6-19. I’m 5’6”, and when I started I weighed 259. I was basically in “maintenance” for 6 months because I couldn’t drop under my 40% BMI, but I ended up losing about 10 pounds and barely qualifying by the skin of my teeth (I also might have had my cell phone and wallet in my pants pocket when I was weighed prior to surgery class).
I was pretty gung-ho (zero food funerals) and lost about 6 pounds in the 2 weeks prior to surgery, and my first morning after surgery I was upset when they weighed me and I was up 2 pounds from the day before.
Understandable,  the nurse (also a sleever) told me.
She said , “ I promise you’ll drop 1-1.5 pounds/day for the next 2 weeks. “
Well I was afraid to get on the scale til yesterday (4 days post sleeve) and was completely flabbergasted to see a 10.4 pound drop! Then I got on the scale this morning to see another 2.6 pound drop.
How is it possible that I lost 13 pounds in  5 days?
Since surgery I’ve gone from 244.2 to 231.0
By tomorrow I’m thinking I might be in the 220’s for the first time in 4 years.
Anyone else have crazy numbers like this and how much longer can I expect this?

Well done so far. The big weight losses will slow down and there will be stalls along the way. Weight gain after surgery is usually due to iv fluids and inflammation and then the Fluid retention usually goes within a few days, hence the big losses.

Just checking you are getting plenty of fluids and the required amount of Protein? ?? What food stage are you at?

Still in liquid only phase.
I’ve managed to get down somewhere between 60-70 ounces of Fluid daily (not counting fluid ingested with proteins) and I’m getting between 2-3 “proteins” daily in the form of Soup or shake.
Still have 8 more days until I’m allowed to eat anything pureeed

Congrats on your surgery. The big numbers last a couple of weeks and then a stall usually hits once you transition from liquids to soft foods, but that's okay and to be expected. Don't rush it. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

Absolutely. It was just kinda freaking me out that so much is falling so fast.
Okay, so this might go on for another week and then a stall will hit? In the meantime I’m going to compile a list of non-scale victories to help measure progress so when the first stall hits I’m as ready as I can be for it

I'm right where you are. Surgery was on the 4th, i'm getting about 60 ounces of fluid and then the 3 shakes a day. I'm ready to eat something though other than liquids! :)

So update: got on the scale this morning and “only” had a 1 pound loss so it looks like the highly disturbing free-fall might be ending and I can start losing what my nurse predicted would happen. Honestly I’ll feel a lot more comfortable knowing I can drop 1-ish pounds/day because that’s something I can manage: I was almost having nightmares trying to figure out how much Water I was going to have to drink while dropping 2.5/day. 😲

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
