I just can't get warm!

Recommended Posts

Sleeved 21st Jan, approx 7kg down. On soft foods, getting 650-820ish calories on board. Hitting av. 68g Protein and 1.75litres Fluid a day. Walking almost every day (missed one). But of an afternoon/evening I just cannot get warm. Sat here with OH and kids in T-Shirts and I'm in a ski jacket with legs cold in jeans, feet cold in socks, and nose/fingers really cold.

Do I need to worry? What should I do differently? If 'No' and 'nothing', will this go away?

It seems to be extremely common. Some sort of metabolic or hormonal reaction. Weeks 2-6 were really bad for me, my fingers and toes would regularly be numb with cold but it has gotten better. I am 3 months out now and while I am colder than I used to be pre-surgery but it is better than those first few weeks. If it lasts it will be nice to not sweat like a pig all summer though.

Thank you for that! The silver lining sounds like bliss after years of balancing the bingo wings Vs boiling alive equation for work every heat wave. If it's 3-4 weeks of teeth gritting then binning that trauma as trade off I'll be fine :-)

I didn't realize it at the time because the weather was cold here, but I apparently had the cold feelings too a couple of weeks post-op. They only lasted two weeks.

I am always cold now.

My surgeon says I lost a lot of my insulation. Not sure there is a fix. I’m over 14 months out, labs are ok. 🤷‍♀️

That's so weird, I didnt think about the coldness as being from the surgery. Figured it was just the weather. I had my surgery on the 31st of January.

@BrighterSide

as OP have sad, "they" use to be hot (me too) now PO they are cold, lack of insulation makes

total sense about feeling cold. what i never understood - is how OP say they are cold immediately PO?

am i the only one that never felt cold after surgery?? weird!!

I think that you're the only one Kathy lol...It started for me after losing about 30-35 lbs and yes I researched it and it does state we are losing our cushion (fat), I'm cold now everyday and before surgery I was hot flashing like crazy and could never sleep in socks, now I sleep in socks. I try to bring a throw to work everyday...It's a good thing to me 😁

2 years?! That just seems like forever. I suppose I should be glad that there's a possible end in sight?

I was cold before surgery and now I'm freezing, ALL THE TIME! I walk around my house in layers, with socks and slippers. I am never without a blanket, like a toddler with a woobie. I work in my home office with a space heater and a lap blanket. I even ordered a heated mouse because my hand got so cold that I couldn't type.

I've been told it's pretty normal. At night I'm FREEZING. I've sweated out the husband and son because I'm so cold I'll turn the heat up and still be bundled up while they're dying from the heat.

Since immediately after surgery (11/6), I am cold all the time. Constantly freezing! Pre-op, I was someone who ran extremely hot and I would sweat so much, I thought I had some kind of glandular disorder. Now, I BARELY glisten with exercise! While being cold all the time is a weird feeling, I'll take it any day over constantly sweating inappropriately!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
