Eating was an activity.

Recommended Posts

I didn’t realize how much eating a meal was an activity. lunch with a friend. dinner out with the husband. Brunch with family. Even grocery shopping and cooking dinner. I still cook but it is different now. It’s just another chore.

I'm not enjoying eating out much and prefer to eat at home now post-op. Even if we share a lunch, I can eat so very little food that I end up doing more sitting and watching my husband eat than eating myself and there are so many menu items that I can't have.

I still very much enjoy going out to eat. I ate primarily Soups from February-November and even then had a good time. That's how we usually socialize and I wouldn't want to give that up for anything.

I love going out to eat. It isnt so much about the food as it is about spending time with family and friends and actually slowing down life a little instead of always being on the run.

I agree, it was an activity, a reason to spend time with people I care about. So, I still do it. The food part is a bit of a chore but the company is great. I find that I eat what I can and take home the rest and eat it over the next few days. Then I don't have to cook! But, I am mindful of what I eat and stick with the Protein first. I wish restaurants would cook their vegetables...the crunchy ones are too much trouble...never cared for the blanched/al dente version.

I immediately put at least half of what I order in a to go box. stick to apps or Soups you can 'linger' over. it is about the fellowship of the meal to me and not the consumption of the food.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
