If you have decent health insurance , you should not have to self pay for things which are covered under your policy. I'm assuming you have to pay for this because it's not covered. That doesn't necessarily mean everything tangentially associated with the outcome will be your responsibility also. Look closer into your policy.

All good advice. I’m just basing all of this off of what the nurse in the surgeons office told me. And I will call on Monday and get more details about the plan myself. I think I need to discuss this with my insurance company first hand.

Hmmm. Don't alert them to any unnecessary info. I'd simply request new/updated coverage info packet/book without being specific.

Then become besties with your Primary and their staff. Keep them on board. Ask how their children are, remember their birthdays, etc.

*If* anything happens and *If* the surgeon gives you a referral to some testing you *think* may not be covered, loop back to your Primary to let them know what's up, ask for the same from their office so insurance will cover it (usually you need a referral from Primary and specialist must be in network- the book from insurance will have A-Z in-network docs)

I know it seems a very ridiculous, way to go... but let's get you in that dream house worry free.

I had no complications. I'm 62yo. Stayed in hospital less than 24hrs, no pain, just discomfort. Recovered very fast after surgery. Noobs and butt are gone. hair is still there. But I'm full of energy, feel happy and health problems are gone.

I was sleeved 12/11/18 and have had no problems. If you over eat (filling you new tummy just one more bite) you can feel sick or can vomit. Just mind you P & Qs and things should go well.

Remember, most people will post if they're having problems, they won't post if everything is going well. So, there are always going to be more posts about problems.

And don't compare your previous bills to what you might need to do self-pay. Those numbers are basically invented. Nobody pays those. Sure, self pay for any complications would be high, but not nearly as high as what they "bill" insurance - that's just a dance the hospitals do with insurance.

Yes, I am a little worried about the hair issue to and have looked at biotine(?). I haven’t started taking anything yet. Did you try any remedies for Hair loss?

thanks for the link green! I had no hair thinning/breakage after after my gallbladder surgery. No thin brittle nails either. I have always had long thick hair and nails but I want to be mentally prepared for that trade off (if it happens). Hopefully I’ll get lucky this time too!

the best thing i can recommend is read the threads, get as much information as possible and be prepared for whatever comes your way.. that way you will know how to deal with it if something does happen, and it will make the transition a lot easier. I went in fully aware of what may happen, i also went in full of faith and knew in my heart i was doing the right thing. I approached the surgery as just another task that needed to be completed, we are all different but i truly believe that if you go in uneducated that you will come out on the other side not knowing how to handle some things.

my doctor is also 3 hours away, but i found a local support group at the hospital here. YOu will be surprised at how welcoming they are for patients that had their surgery elsewhere. Check around your local area for a support group there at one of the hospitals and see if you can join the post op support group.

57 years old. I was a revision so doc was concerned about scar tissue. But, I felt fine the evening of surgery. Could have gone home, but wasn't allowed to. My friend came to visit me in the hospital in morning and the doc said I could go home so we walked to the parking lot and she drove me home. Hub had no time to make it to the hospital.

Other than Constipation (affects a lot of us), absolutely no complications. No Hair loss and I'm 6 months out. 60 pounds down.

So happy I decided to do this.
